Thats the one Sam.And for those who say they don't care about a HUD, Boeing do, as do many pilots that use what happens to be one of the most useful aviation inventions ever.you can get lazy thought and out practice.I landed the NGX without the HUD the other day, and it immediately struck me that I was out of practice.

HUDs are indispensable in a combat jet but also of use in a tube liner to keep your head up at crucial flight junctures.

As the 777 has one, I sincerely hope to see one here.

I agree. For me its indispensable in the NGX. In fact I dispense with that part of reality when I fly and configure all my 737s regardless of whether the operator has it installed. As the the 777 development goes, I am sure that if its not in by now it will not be in the PMDG version.

Edit: besides I thought that this was discussed already and PMDG said that it was not modelled, but my memory could be faulty, which has happened

The real 777 does not have a factory option for a hud but airlines like FedEx are installing aftermarket versions.

HGS is standart in 747-8, isnt it?

There is no official first party Boeing HUD option on either the 777 or 747-8.

Which is really shocking especially on the 748, kinda strange how its offered on the 737 but its not offered on the more advanced airliners such as the 777, 748, or even the 767 line. Kinda neat how the FO gets one on the 787 though.

B737 should be like that - then I'd get to use it! Since I fly in the right seat, I've never used the HGS in the NGX..

Just give the left seat a shot and you won't regret discovering the HUD. I used to alternate between left and right but gave it up for the left after awhile.

I think they were trying to maintain cockpit commonality with the 400. Having a HUD there would result in the -8 having extra procedures and methodologies that aren't there on the 400 and would probably result in it just not getting used at all because of that.

I suspect the 777X is probably going to be the same deal - commonality with the older models so that pilots can fly both under the same type rating.

EVS has been done. See:

Not a true EVS. It cant see through clouds(its done in a couple other mil birds). Just a texture on the HUD that "greens" the outside world. And true EVS/LANTIRN looks a bit different. That said though, EVS (be it IR camera or SVS) is possible in FSX based on some experiments i have been doing...

Strange. I seem to remember reading that the HUD will be there.

About 777X, wouldnt it be more 787-like?

Still though what VRS did with FSX is astounding.

I seriously doubt they're going to ruin cockpit commonality with the older 777s by doing that - it'll probably have some of the integrated EFB type stuff on the ND (taxi diagrams etc like the 748 and 787 do) but I doubt it'll have HGS. Think about where these aircraft are likely to fly too - major international airports with full autoland capable runways. You really don't need an HGS for that. With the 787 it made sense because it's a brand new type and it's conceivable some airlines could use it in places where the HGS would be useful since it's a smaller aircraft. I seriously doubt you'll see a 777X going into any place that would necessitate the use of an HGS though.
