March 28, 201214 yr Holy crap guys I don't think I could ever play FSX in 2d ever again! My Asus VG27H came in today, hooked everything up and loaded FSX with 50% 3d depth with my 3D shades and wow what an experience. The only 3d objects I see are the FSX planes, but wow they are rendered sooo nice.Anyone else running FSX in 3D???Any tips or patches made to fix lights and render more objects? March 28, 201214 yr been running my fsx 3d for two years. I fly mostly in 2d because of the draw on memory and impact on fps. the landing lights ie papi lights are a problem and you will not get them to render in 3d correctly. I have all scenery and objects in 3d so I do not know what you are experiencing.I am using GEForce GTX260 with stereoscopic 3d drivers, everything works great for me. I found that most fun in mountainous terrain. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
March 28, 201214 yr Author what about the glasses?are they annoying?Actually their not as bulky as you would think, i wear them with my track IR hat receiver. March 28, 201214 yr I invested 1 year ago in 3D Vision with 2600K (OC to 4,6 when running FSX) and GTX580 and can't imagine without flying and these hardware combination with all the add-on stuff is running between 25-30fps in 3D. I hope that Prepar3D will tune up to DX10 or DX11 so the misplaced lights issue in FSX/Prepar will be solved. Running Flight in 3D is 100% perfect but normally use FSX/Prepar3D.Ofcourse I'm also using Track-IR.If configured correct, you also must have the environment and clouds visible in 3D...Happy landings.
March 28, 201214 yr I used to deal with some people at work who used MSFS for research purposes, way back when I first learned what they were doing they were still using FS-2004 (probably about 2007.) They had a crazy budget, and one of the things they had decided to do was invest in 3D goggles. They showed me what it looked like, and I was blown away! The goggles, along with a high quality payware F-18, it was just incredible. It looked so good I had to hold myself back from trying to reach out and touch the components of the virtual cockpit.
March 28, 201214 yr I tried FSX with the edimansional 3D shutter glasses a few years ago, and although it does look okay, the effect is more like a pop up book in the cockpit than the sort of genuine feeling of 3D in the sense that one might have when looking through a window and being convinced that it really is distant terrain, since you need stereoscopic parallax to make that convincing, and you aren't going to get that at anything above a low altitude, since objects are too distant to display a parallax shift. The parallax effect on the yoke and other such items in front of the panel however, is reasonably convincing, but where a problem rears its head, is that it is difficult to then operate a keyboard while the glasses are on, so it was kind of one or the other, and so those glasses are now gathering dust, even though it was quite a novel experience.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
March 28, 201214 yr Interesting you say that, I was just at their site wondering if I should buy a pair. If that's the case, perhaps I just won't bother.
March 28, 201214 yr If you fly GA aircraft, where many of the controls are capable of going on a yoke or joystick and you largely fly by stick and rudder alone, then don't let the difficulty of operating a keyboard put you off, but if you use the mouse and keyboard a lot to operate a fancy airliner controls in FSX, then you will find it hard to manage that with shutter glasses. They are cool in FPS games though if you have a mouse with plenty of buttons for reloading your weapon and stuff like that.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

March 29, 201214 yr FSX in 3d is great, until you hit a large 2d sprite like in some sceneries(ex: fountain in FlyTampa Tampa) or smoke off the tires...then you go cross-eyed.I have the same monitor and it's awesome, but 3dvision is a feature that we are bolting on to a game/sim that was never designed for it.
March 29, 201214 yr I recently starting using 3DVision in FSX when I realized how great the PMDG 737 NGX panel looked in 3D.If anyone has a powerful Nvidia card and they're wondering how to utlize more GPU in FSX, turn on 3D. Basically, if you are using less than 50% GPU on average in FSX, you can get 3D without any impact on framerate.I usually turn 3D off during preflight prep and the enroute stage of the flight, which is easy to do using a hotkey.I have many controls mapped to my X-52 controller, but I also use an illuminated keyboard to help me find keys when using the glasses. There are issues though. UTX night lighting and VASI don't render in the correct perspective. The night-lighting at some commercial add-on airports works better in 3D than at other airports (even from the same author, such as FSDreamTeam). Congrats on the ASUS VG27H. The 27" size and 3DVision version 2 must be nice!
March 29, 201214 yr Author Anyone know why my buildings aren't rendered in 3d?The only thing in 3d are my planes?Could ENB or not using DX10 be the issue?? March 29, 201214 yr I don't know the answer for sure, but in general planes are much more complex and detailed than buildings. The buildings may well be flat surfaces with textures applied, so there is nothing to give a 3D image.
March 29, 201214 yr If you get a monitor that can do 2D to 3D you get no hit on FPS at all as its done by the monitor it's self. Not as good as full 3D but no hit on fsx for fsx is huge. David Murden.
