April 6, 201214 yr If you've got a good 20 mins to spare, here's a story written by a member of the forum about a flight he took with me back last year and it contains a lot about what you might want to know about the rosters of both short haul and long haul airline pilots... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/353541-story-of-my-aerlingus-flight/ Capt. Rónán O Cadhain. You're at the mercy of the crew schedulers Bit of a typo there, I think you meant to say "Screw Scheduling"... Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

April 6, 201214 yr Yeah, I had my doubts if I should ask yhis on a forum for cup cake recepies or an aviation forum :Hypnotized: Gave me a giggle before bedtime.
April 6, 201214 yr That is of course, if your company doesn't have preferential bidding. Oh we have preferential bidding by seniority alright, doesn't change the fact that they still seem to deal a fairly cr@ppy hand to even senior pilots every once in a while... Ró. Pilots are hourly, not salaried. However, pilots are guaranteed hours so in the RARE occasion they dont meet that, you get payed anyway. That is only the case in some airlines, in a lot of airlines you get a set salary and then performance pay for every sector you fly. At EIN we have a set salary and then we get extra for the amount of sectors we fly, in addition to our lay-over allowance... Here's our current pay scale; http://www.pilotjobsnetwork.com/jobs/Aer_Lingus_(ROI_Contract) Capt. Rónán O Cadhain. Rónán O Cadhain.

April 6, 201214 yr Thankfully we work for proper airlines, Rónán! :P Thankfully is right, thank goodness the life of the legacy airline pilot is still alive and kicking.... Have to say, the one thing I'd hate is to be paid purely by sector and not have my nice base salary, that'd be a royal pain, I feel sorry to the likes of FR pilots that are, though in fairness most of them are P2F, so not much more else to say is there... Ró. A lot of my course mates went to FR and despite working a shed load they're not doing too badly, pay wise anyway! But yeah sector pay/hourly would be terrible when the flying dries up, I feel sorry for the EZY guys and their "winter flying protection" thing..just sounds bad news! Haha yeah I love single sector days! I do have a slight guilty feeling when we arrive into GVA, shortly followed by an EZY Bus, and we see them go AND come back before we've even left! Easy life for sure! :P Rgds - Sam Harridann

Easy life for sure! :P You think that makes you feel guilty, try pulling up on a stand in JFK beside a regional airliner and knowing you literally earn 10 times as much as they do, and their job is a hell of a lot more challenging and tiring than yours. Now THAT'S guilt... Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

Now THAT'S guilt... Ró. Hmmm yeah that's guilt, Don't quite think my mummy bus, or even the daddy bus would make it to JFK! Can't keep up with that problem child! Think of me pulling up in the A318 in a few months..we haul maybe a 10th what they do, and well, I'd hate to look into what we make vs what they make, its eyewatering! But what can I say, we have a totally different discussion on our hands there! I've not long watched the Air Crash Investigation of the Colgan 3047 (?) Dash...chilling Rgds - Sam Harridann
April 6, 201214 yr Well I do also get a schedule for every month, the company I fly for flies charter flight, ACMI, other special flight and cargo they have three 737-300QC. :-) Based in Europe but if needed we fly all over the world. ;-) But my schedule for this month is mainly from CPH to TFS, LPA, HRG, SSH, MLA, AYT and PMI and back (with a nightstop or two at TFS and LPA). Maybe some other destinationes will come. :-) 737 CL/NG skysurfer

April 7, 201214 yr Author Not to start a war with you. But I was talking about the PMDG part of the forum, which I'm sure you knew what I meant. A war? Not when it is Easter... or anyday! :Peace: Martin Pampiermole
April 7, 201214 yr I always prefer: the Pina colada drinking, handsome in uniform, flirting with the most beautifull women in exotic places, man. That does what he likes to do the most -flying- and gets paid for it... But I am a notorious dreamer, although the "getting paid to do what you love " must come close, otherwise you'll never start flying in the first place I imagine...
