Moon on a Stick...

Oh, we understand! Trust me, we do!

Too many people were expecting a new horse, but instead aren't at all happy with the really new unicorn that finally was delivered...

I'm quite happy with the unicorn myself, as I get tired of having to spend so much time currying and pampering the old horse.

You've got yourself a hoof and a tail today. It might be an entire unicorn in 2 years, at which point you will realise MS slowly sold you the entire default FSNext ala carte for $300.

"Everyone?" Be careful using absolutes, as they are rarely accurate. Better phrasing would have been "some" or possibly "a few"...

Very poignant. I better start checking my spelling too.

Sooo... is this thread about done yet?

So what? Over the last twenty plus years I've invested well over $30,000 on flight simulation, in the form of hardware (more than 60 computers), the base software, and hundreds of payware aircraft, sceneries, and so on.

Oddly enough, even though flightsim development for FS9/FSX/Prepar3D has been my sole source of income for the last fifteen years, I still enjoy Flight as a light diversion from my real work. If anyone should be upset about being "shut out" by Flight it would be me and a handful of my fellow developers who aren't wearing blinders or nursing bruised egos... :LMAO:

Sorry to reveal you the dull truth, but unicorns don't exist. That strange beast you like is a mule with a carrot on the nose Big%20Grin.gif

Oh no, I assure you that I got a genuine unicorn, nothing at all like that fake "quadracorn" shown on TV. My unicorn's horn is curly and pearlescent white, not wrinkled, dirty and orange.

wellll, there has been some rumblings from the 3pds, and rightfully so. At the same time, you have been making money off of their hard work too, so you can't really say much when they pulled the plug on you. Let me ask.. did you, or any 3pd, have to pay a dime to MS for creating addons for their product?

And even if true, what of it? You have no need at all to follow this "Mule" if you choose not to, nor any right to continually badger those who do. You have made your feelings known repeatedly, yet simmering resentment apparently drives you to express your unhappiness anew. To what constructive purpose, I wonder?

Yesterday I downloaded my first custom scenery, that of Paris by XPFR (freeware), and it is really spectacular, in particular with the wonderful night lighting of XP-10 (flying with an helicopter over the Pyramide du Louvre at night is quite stunning).

You can check some (old) images here:

The freeware Paris scenery at that site is for X-plane 9.50. Is that fully compatible with X-plane 10 ?

To to OP I apologise for going off topic.

To put it the other way around... if you'd been using any of the previous flight simulators from Microsoft, would you have guessed that they would ever release something this limited?

For anyone but newcomers the one-piece-at-a-time approach was a huge surprise... and a massive disappointment for everyone thinking MS Flight would mean they could put the buggy FSX to rest. Right now it looks like MS Flight never will cover the whole earth or have the diversity of planes like we see in FSX. It boils down the previous simulators giving you huge freedom so you could fly almost exactly the way you wanted, for now in MS Flight thats totally missing.

I was initially disappointed that we weren't getting FS11, but I got over it. The more I played Flight, the more I liked it.

This kind of sums it up for a lot of us. And this is why we're sad when someone refuses to even download Flight and try it, or gives up after a very short time, never giving Flight a chance to show what it can do.

Originally I didn't care much for either the Stearman or the Maule, but both of these planes have the highest hour count in the game. In the case of the Stearman, it was pretty much everything I didn't want in a simulated aircraft: no good forward view and somewhat twitchy to fly. Oddly enough, after a couple of hours in it, I got to where I really enjoyed flying it. The Maule wasn't something you could just jump in and fly well immediately. After the update the controls were a lot better, and it's a lot of fun to fly.

Just gotta give it a chance, because Flight grows on you.

I agree very much that it grows on you. I also see very much why people complain about little content in MS Flight, it can only grow so much on me until certain plane categories are included. I know that 99% likely Microsoft reads these forums. And topics like "the big suggestion list" should not be made fool of even if it wants the "moon on a stick", because Microsoft should know about what the community wants, it's constructive criticism

The operative Word is "constructive"

Other operative words might be; logical, factual, positive and practical.

I dont think anyone here has expressed an unwillingness to hear criticism. In regards to Flight, I have criticisms of my own. The differance is in the presentation and the intent.

J van E - you and others on this forum talk an awful lot of good sense.

Well, thank you!

And, no matter how much MS tries to deny it, MS Flight is the sequel to FSX. So the two are (rightfully) going to be compared.

One sentence from Arwen just about sums it up. No wonder there is controversy.

At least one poster seemed to know what was coming.

Which seems to be a fairly common experience.

So, nobody is right and nobody is wrong. Flight just depends upon how many people invest in the DLC.

And how willing they are to put aside their preconceptions about what flight should have been.

...By ###### I mean someone who is fanatically devoted to the product and just can't seem to understand why others don't share their passion. If that's inaccurate, then propose another term for that type of poster rather than just citing some baloney rule and unilaterally declaring victory in an argument that doesn't actually exist.

Fanatically devoted? Seriously? It's a game for goodness sake, I hope that anyone here is mature enough to see that ;)

When I saw the first reviews of flight I wasn't going to download it. Then I heard a different point of view and I decided to give it a try. I bought the whole Hawaii soon after and boy I've had more fun then in any previous FS, though I am not sure exactly why. I have even started to learn new things, use checklists extensively, so in the end, Flight worked for me pretty well - and motivated to learn new things far more then previous sims (though to be honest, it could have been coincidence).

BTW those XP pictures of Paris look AMAZING!

Hawaii!
