April 14, 201214 yr Author Finally I'll have a machine to run it properly, so I hope... Don't know if it is your cup of tea or not, but realize that cpu you are getting just begs to be overclocked... Don B
April 14, 201214 yr Overclocking? Isn't that the Viagra of CPUs?... Then it'll start having vision problems and will blurr the display... :-) Don't know if it is your cup of tea or not, but realize that cpu you are getting just begs to be overclocked... April 14, 201214 yr Well, in all honesty it would almost be a waste to NOT oc that i5 2500K...! Really! Even with the default cooler you might be able to oc it a little, but with a good cooler (won't have to cost more than some 30, 40 bucks: I have the Scythe Mugen 2 rev. B) you can really make the cpu shine! I have an i5 2500K and I have it running at 4.5 Ghz without any problems. You should be able to make it run even faster, but I don't want to constantly stress my hardware. I do have a nice motherboard for oc'ing though, I have to add (Asus P8Z68-V). Any idea what your motherboard will be, jcomm?
April 14, 201214 yr I know Don and Jeroen :-) Was just kidding... I will consider 'oc'... ;-) and Viagra too :-) Lol, just thought you should know to have in the back of your mind just in case... April 14, 201214 yr It is funny, in the beginning most of the threads about Flight were about flying realistic procedures, instrument procedures, flight models, now it is about making "fake" cockpit views, how fast can I go, how high can I go, oh boy, the tower has a view, planes don't need cockpits, look I ditched my controllers for X-Box so the only pattern I see is one of Flight going in the wrong direction faster than a cockpit-less P-51... But maybe MS is just getting what they wanted with their intended target audience I feel exactly the same way. I no longer have much hope for Flight becoming much more than a game, as that seems to be what most users only want from it. Once I get a better computer, I'll likely just get P3D, since that looks like it will have a more promising future as a flightsim. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
April 14, 201214 yr Author Sounds to me like the days of Flight users sharing their experiences, trying to help others, and having generally positive threads about the program are over, or soon to be. We are just labeled as gamers, MS's target audience, planes don't need cockpits, how fast can I go, etc etc. Never mind that I have 5 other very complex flight sims installed that I enjoy, thousands invested in equipment - controllers, hardware, to enjoy them with. I am nothing more than a gamer, and I am a low life as seen by many. I am sorry but it is really sad when even a moderator joins in on it. I have said it many times in the past, but I will have to rephrase it now - I " used" to be very proud of what this forum had become... I for one am dang sorry I even started this thread. I will know better going forward. Don B
April 14, 201214 yr I am sorry but it is really sad when even a moderator joins in on it. +1 Don, don't let it get you down. I don't care if people call me a gamer, a loser, a moron, a sucker or a simmer. As long as I enjoy what I am doing, it's fine with me.
April 14, 201214 yr If you consider my experience counts, as that of someone who has loved civil aviation since I know myself, and hold a pilot license since 1980 (I was then 16...), who have used flight simulators since 1990, I will add that I like FLIGHT more than I liked all of the previous versions of MSFS. The joy I get from using it is unique, even if I don't like some aspects ... For cockpit full simulation I'd rather wait for this, after having used PS1 extensively ... http://aerowinx.com/forum/topic.php?id=958 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
April 14, 201214 yr I agree completely with José, Jeroen, Don.... I have been doing this for a long time, have many years of experience in multiple flight titles, including Elite which is even FAA-approved, have done all the pretend-I-am-a-pilot routine such as FP, weather, clearance, SID, Control and Center, airways, navaids, including NDBs, vectors, STARs, patterns, and all the rest, and you know what? I couldn't care less! I do this for fun, and if anybody doesn't like it, so what? For a long time, the only fun in FS was the sailplane in Sausalito, the only fun! So, Flight is a breath of fresh air, what am I saying? a gust, a storm of cool and refreshing air, a new atmosphere altogether. Oh, and Don... I use the Mustang all the time, and love it although I don't really know how to fly it well. It would have been nice to have a cockpit, but so what? Really, Arwen, you have come a long way, and perhaps you should reconsider if this is really what you want to be doing. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
April 14, 201214 yr Something worth bouncing around in your head if you think the game is doomed because the Mustang and Zero are popular: If the big complex aircraft and all these new (old?) features people are clamoring for ever come to Flight, it will probably be because of the success of the "Basic" aircraft.
April 14, 201214 yr The more who buy the cockpit-less aircraft, the more Microsoft will continue to offer them. I, for one, will NEVER succumb to buying a cockpit-less aircraft. There's more to enjoy in FSX and FLIGHT when I can get behind the controls. Seeing an aircraft from spot view only makes me very upset with the way a simulation is designed. I won't do it, and I recommend other "true simmers" to not do it as well. Stan
April 15, 201214 yr Gee. I flew the Zero from the southern tip of the Big Island, over all the islands, to Ka'ula, as close to the deck as I dared. The full-screen view was thrilling. On the way back, I ran out of gas and made a deadstick landing in a field on Kauai, couldn't quite make it to Barking Sands. It was a blast. What, if any, "signal" that sends to anyone, I don't know, and I don't really care. You guys have your fun, and I'll have mine. - Peter C http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bob_and_Ray_Show

April 15, 201214 yr I believe now that their strategy has long been defined, and that having more or less people buying this or that sort of aircraft DLC will not influence it... The strategy was mainly drived by the objective of bringing FLIGHT to a wider public, and I hope they succeed in achieving that objective because we will all profit from it... The hardcore simmers will be able to get their satisfaction too, provided they do not look for complex airliners, which as far as I know FLIGHT will never include... But then again, if I want a serious airliner I use Aerowinx PS1, or the upcoming PSX, if I want a WW2 aircraft I'll switch to IL2, a military helo - DCS BlackShark, serious GA IFR trainning with ATC, either FSX, Prepar3D or XPlane, or even ELITE, ASA On-Top will be better choices! Try to see FLIGHT for hardcore simmer as I see many RL airline pilots who come to my airfield, under "G" airspace, to freely and leisurely fly their UL or gliders,,, They are there to fly for pleasure because, after all, they really like to fly, but are tired of the professional aspects of their "métiers..." Arwen - try to enjoy FLIGHT! You've actually contributed quite a LOT towards making me even consider it with your "FLIGHT WILL BE GOOD" post :-) Remember? ;-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
