April 18, 201214 yr anyone know how to correct this problem? the heading indicator is incorrect. it appears that the magnetic deviation is not accurate. i have followed all the suggestions on the forum regarding deselecting all add-on sceneries, replacing the magdec.bgl file, etc with no joy. this has made FS9 unplayable. hopefully someone has a solution. Did you try placing the magdec folder in the scenery file and add it as a scenery like a normal scenery file? Then always keep it at #1. This has solved problems for me. It's the last resort if you can't find an errant scenery. I hope it works for you. Jim D.
April 18, 201214 yr http://www.flight1.c...sp?page=library is the location of the free registry checker/repair utility. If on VISTA or Win 7 you will probably have to right click on it and select run as admin (a program access setting, not a user account setting). If FSX was ever installed this setting of FS in the registry should be checked as FSX during uninstall does not remove it. This especially applied to beta testers.

The registry utility is good to have but I suspect the magdec file is your real culprit and if you assign it to a folder that will keep it as "number one" it should do the trick. As I use AES and that always has to be at the top priority (i.e. the bottom of the scenery.cfg file - the very last entry) - I put it in there and it always stays "on top." Cheers Ian
April 20, 201214 yr http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids.html magdec.bgl replaces the existing file of the same name. It is not necessary to add it to your normal scenery file. It also has a facility to make individual changes. Remember that your inertial navigation is true and not magnetic. vololiberista Installation of new MAGDEC.BGL files (recommended)-------------------------------------------------- 1) Close FS2004 or FSX, since you will not be allowed to replace the file while the simulator is running 2) Locate the MAGDEC.BGL file which is in the \SCENERY\BASE\SCENERY\ sub folder of your FS2004/FSX install directory 3) KEEP A COPY of the old file somewhere or rename it MAGDEC.BGL.BAK (DO NOT KEEP the bgl extension if the file is kept in its native directory) 4) In the [MagDec Files] folder of the provided package, select the updated file you want to use (either FS2004 or FSX / 2005 or 2010) 4) Copy this new MAGDEC.BGL file in the \SCENERY\BASE\SCENERY\ sub folder of your FS2004/FSX install directory That's all Flight Simulator will rebuild its index at first launch and the new magnetic variations will be applied.. Earlier discussions suggest that it generates other problems in Flight Simulator. But at any rate, that is only intended as an upgrade and therefore replacement of the existing one is unlikely to resolve the issue if a modified copy has been installed with some scenery at a higher scenery level. As kiwiflyer45 says, the first thing to try is to place a copy of the original magdec.bgl at the highest possible level - I would go a little further and would check that the existing one is the original, best taken from the install CDs. April 20, 201214 yr Does the compass show the correct heading? If so, it is not the MAGDEC.bgl Does your directional gyro match the compass? If not..Have you tried the "D" key? (Gyro Set/Reset w/ stock assignments) This can occur if one switches aircraft from a saved flight prior to engine start of the original aircraft. Roman FS RTWR SHRS F-111 JoinFS Little Navmap

John There are apparently some problems with displays, though it has never happend to me "yet". But there is now also a fix to reset individual bgl files. It works for me! And as has been said DO NOT put it into your normal scenery file. It should be in the folder FS9\Scenery\BASE\Scenery. vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
April 21, 201214 yr The advantage of putting a copy of your original file at the highest level is that, like almost all scenery files, it will over-ride any lower files and thus over-ride any scenery that has put modifications in and stuffed your system up. It saves spending a lot of time identifying the culprit. John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
