April 27, 201214 yr Author I'd go for the RA Scout pack... And why would you choose the Scout over the Carenado?
April 27, 201214 yr And why would you choose the Scout over the Carenado? Superb fde, multiple aircraft options you get for the price (amphib, scout, decathlon, citabria etc, and panel configs for each of those) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 27, 201214 yr I have both. I fly the Carenado a lot and the Scout not very much, if that tells you anything. I think the Scout FDE is overrated. I also think the VC on all the RealAir models are a little cartoonish (as are the external graphics, but I never really fly outside my plane, so this doesn't bother me). The Carenado VC is quite realistic looking. I think the C185 with Bernt's FD update is at least as good, if not better, than the Scout FD. You get a lot of different aircraft, as Ryan says, with the Scout package, but they aren't really that different from one another. With both the regular and bush packages of the C185 you also get a lot of different planes, and they feel more different from one another than the different Scout options do. Loading the C185 realistically (payload) really changes the performance and feel of the aircraft. I appreciate that realism (load her up near gross and mess up the balance toward one side and you'll come to appreciate weight and balance calculations real quick!). And that big old Continental sure makes for STOL performance (and low landing speeds) while still cruising at 140-160 mph, depending on load and power settings. I like both the KC Seabee and the C185 much better than the Scout.
April 27, 201214 yr The Realair seems to have an edge over the Carenado on the gauges and the config options. The Realair gauges should still be a treat, while the Carenado handles some older tech. With the optional FDE mod, the C185 should be very accurate and fun though, thanks to Bernt Stolle. I think you can buy the C185 at F1, which enables a money back policy in case you don't like her.
April 27, 201214 yr I agree on the Cessna 185, I've had it since it was first released, as well as the bush pack, and I love it, especially with Mr. Stolle's FDE update.
April 27, 201214 yr Being totally off topic. Anyone else wishing for a Carenado C208 amphibian? http://www.australianflying.com.au/classifieds/cessna-c208-675-shp-caravan-amphibian
April 27, 201214 yr @Bill Thanks for that link. But it seems that they take several days to validate a PayPal purchase. Never heard of such nonsense before and that has been from buying high-priced packages such as the PMDG, ORBX, FSDT, etc, etc. Think I'll give it a miss and go for the Cessna 185 instead. Rick Almeida

April 27, 201214 yr Author Thanks to all for your input. I'm going to go with the Carenado C185 because of its power and new flight dynamics. The Seabee is very interesting but its seems to be an unfinished product at this point. With further SPs, maybe I'll revisit it. The Scout also looks good, but one of its selling points is the additional GA aircraft that I'm not really interested in.
April 27, 201214 yr Good choice. I think the situation on the 'ultimate mod' for the 185 hasn't changed. Means that the author himself described it like this. BStolle: Wow, I didn't expect that anyone would still be interested in the 'ultimate' 185. It all started when Glenn 'Beaverdriver' asked me if it would be possible to make a better FDE for the 185.The result was the 'optional' patch on the Carenado webpage which was done by Glenn (engine part) and myself (aerodynamics). This patch however was still not perfect and I decided to start a new FDE from scratch. I did send my flight test questionnaire to a couple of RW 185 pilots and got quite a few filled out test reports back. That way it was possible to make a noticable more realistic FDE than the one in the 'optional' patch. It was available exclusively at the original bushpounders site but for many people including me, the whole website doesn't work anymore. Don't even know if I still have the files on an external HDD. E.g. AFAIK CoolP still has the 'ultimate patch' and anyone who has them can upload them anywere of course! http://www.orbxsyste...post__p__335931 So you may see the optional FDE patch on the Carenado page, but this isn't the latest version BStolle is talking about. April 27, 201214 yr Yes. Here you are for the bush version. http://www.flight1.c...oduct=c185fbush Buying at Carenado also works of course and they also offer refunds if you ask and explain, but not on that policy basis like at F1.
