May 1, 201214 yr Have a look what high winds did today to Spanish planes attempting to land. Those pilots have to be saluted. http://www.bbc.co.uk...europe-17863501 Rick Almeida
May 1, 201214 yr Good grief....that is the worst case of crabbing I've seen. I am somewhat surprised that planes actually kept on landing rather then abort. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
May 1, 201214 yr This sometimes makes me wonder about the decision making process on whether an airport should be closed and mandatory diversions issued.I know decisions are sometimes made more on financial considerations than on safety ones, and that ultimately the pilot is the one who gets it in the neck if things go wrong. The local ATC knows the local landing conditions and in my opinion, appears to have shown a lack of concern in informing pilots. May 1, 201214 yr Remember that most a/c will have a limitation of 25kts crosswind factor. If it was consistently gusting above that then yes diversions would be the order of the day. Having said that, landings around 25kts are quite straightforward. It's the gusting that makes it more interesting. vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
May 1, 201214 yr "Shucks", my landings in flight sim looks like that even with calm winds. I might get the hang of it one of these days. Practice, practice.
