Hate glass in an aircraft like this, looking forward to it even more. RA are the masters of steam!

... but in an aircraft which is fundamentally about subtle lines, sleek simplicity and piloting skills we think traditional gauges that are attractive, clear and distinct, and give all the info you need instantly, are the right thing to include.

Oh, man! Oh, MAN! Perfect. Love it. Yes, absolutely, positively correct! If you'd made this one glass, I could've passed on by, but...

I'd promised myself I'd take a break for a while on new planes. I've honestly got more planes that I really, really enjoy flying right now than I have time to fly. But this and the Milviz Baby Baron are going to make me backslide, I know it. :-)

I'm not a "glass" fan for desktop flight simulation. With limitations in monitor size, and trying to get a view of the outside world & panel at the same time; there are just to many limitations. You have to zoom in, mousing around takes too much time, and the system functions will not often replicate all that the real one does.

But.............as a long time member of the real life "experimental aircraft" world........glass is the only way to go! It's components are lighter than the six pac, doesn't tumble with aerobatics, offers far more information in single glances, and just looks great! In the "experimental" world, the prices are also very competetive.

That is, in fact, my major objection to glass in VCs as well. I hate having to use popups as they're immersion killers, and most glass cockpits pretty much require steady popup use. I want badly to like them in the sim, but I just can't seem to get past the popup barrier and I can never get a decent scan working because I can't see what I need to see. But my mind remains open and I continue to give 'em a whirl. Perhaps if I'd ever break down and give TrackIR and/or EZDok a try I'd feel more comfortable with glass. That said...

You're probably right, but I still think a plane like this cries out for analogue gauges, as do many others. I've worked in tech my whole life (and still do) and I generally embrace the latest and best in technology, but I learned to fly with a six pack and while I'm sure in time my scan would be better with a good glass cockpit, it sure isn't right now.

And then there's the simple issue of aesthetics. Flying is an emotional thing for most of us, and there's just something that appeals emotionally to me about a nice, well laid out cockpit full of traditional gauges. When I peer into the cockpit of a new or re-done GA or experimental plane and see a panel with nothing but a coupla flatscreens, well... it just feels so souless.

No logic involved, here and I freely admit it.

One of the nicer glass displays is on Ant's Eaglet... very simple and easy to view. Of course it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that others have such as the F1 C182...
