DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Simple, when I disable Vsync in Nvidia Inspector, I get tearing.

Afaik, inspector links to the default nvidia control panel.

Setting vsync in inspector also shows up in the control panel if you open it and select the FSX executable.

How do you know it's not just the default control panel giving you the working vsync?

Even if it didn't, how could you be sure that the 1/2 refresh adaptive mode would work for inspector since it's exclusive to the inspector program?

I checked the default control panel and didn't see any adaptive settings.

I used to have better FPS in dx10 compared to dx9.. was almost gonna stick with it even with some flashy runways but many AC & airport had texture problems too.. or just didn't have proper textures for DX10 since nobody uses it.

It works! Thanks! Hope you can correct the jagged cockpit shadow too!

It works for me.

I have shader 3.0 mod installed and it works too, no problems (ATI 5770, win7 64).

Thank you, this is a big improvement.

I have an ATI card so I cannot comment on Nvidia Inspector. Of course that also means I cannot get Vsync to work with DX10!

It might be worth clarifying that the "preview" tag is one Aces used because the DX10 implementation still had flaws (like jaggy in cockpit shadows) when it was released rather than it using using some prototype version of DX10.

As Eric Morecambe might have said - its using all the right API calls, although not necessary in the right order.

Well, they are there allright... (but not all of them)

Yes but what is your point ? Nvidia Inspector is "just" a front-end to the driver settings just like the Nvidia Control panel except that you have more options. Some settings work in DX10 Preview, others don't, i.e. AA

FPS set at unlimited in FSX :

DX10 preview mode : vsync force Off set in Nvidia Inspector : 235 fps

DX10 preview mode : vsync force on set in Nvidia Inspector : 61.1 fps

DX10 preview mode : vsync force 1/2 refresh rate set in Nvidia Inspector : 30.1 fps

I might be able to get the same results just by using Nvidia's Control Panel but I happen to prefer NI.

P.S. : Steve, sorry for hijacking your thead

I will be monitoring this thread. If DX10 can be implemented properly it will be huge!

If 2x AA is enough for you and if you don't mind a few flickering textures by night, it perfectly flyable. Visually, it can even be quite stunning as FSX bloom looks so much better than ENB in my opinion and that without impacting your frames. We've been waiting for ages for this fix and on the way, you might even gain a few FPS so why wait ? Your mileage may vary but there is nothing to lose. Moving back to dx9 is just a checkbox away.

Sorry for another off topic question....but does DX10 come with it's own bloom built in? Or are you actually checking the bloom box in the display options?

I thought bloom was a massive FPS eater.

Under windows vista I had better frame rates with DX-10 preview,Under Win7-64,its the opposite.

You guys seeing much FPS increase in DX10?

I hope none of my planes or ultimate traffic turn out with white textures, will have to try this...

Just to report that this fix works for me.

Thank you!

Just ticking the "Light bloom" checkbox in the display options. It has much less impact on your FPS than in DX9 mode.
