If you like turboprops, check out Carenado's Piper Meridian Jetprop, and King Air C90. They have both a King Air 200 and TBM 850 in development. They are all payware, but you won't find better GA aircraft. Eaglesoft Development Group has a very nice Citation X, and they have a Citation XLS in development.

Thanks for the information I will add those to the list of aircraft to be researched.

I added my first piece of payware this morning. I purchased AccuFeel from A2A and noticed a significant improvment in gameplay almost immediately. The thing that jumped out at me first was the sensation of speed when taking off. The sound off the planes, particulary the King Air, was also improved. I'd recommended this as a first purchase to anyone who's getting into FSX .

I've been playing FSX for quite a bit of the past 2 days and have found some things good, some bad, and some a little weird.

The Good

1. Multi-Engine Planes!!!! :). That may seem simple but after being frustrated with Flight, this is a biggie

2. Jets!!! - See 1.

3. More places to fly in/to - See 1

4. ATC - See 1

5. Lots of options of what to fly and how to fly them

6. Lots of 3rd party goodies (Accu-Feel rocks :) )

Bad

1. This could get expensive

2. Some 3rd party products don't work as advertised

3. Graphics

4. Random crashes on long flights (Really annoying 2.5 hours into a FLL to LAX flight)

Weird

1. Loaded some Orbx freeware and for the life of me, I can't spot any differences between default FSX scenery/airports and the Orbx

2. The Just Flight 757 freeware doesn't allow me to change alt/bearing/speed in units smaller than 10

I've tried a bunch of different fixes for the the random crashing (change frame rate to unlimited, deleting the FSX config file, defrag etc.) and it sill happens. Still looking at this and hope to resolve this soon as I'd be annoyed if it crashes on a flight I have planned from New York to London.

The Orbx problem is a weird one. I've done everything suggested on their forum and still see no difference. Must be my old eyes. I have no clue what to do with the 757 as I do not have that issue with any other aircraft.

FSX is definitely more fun than Flight in its current form, so much so that I have not touched Flight since I loaded FSX. I think I'm beginning to figure out what I like in FSX and that is long flights at high altitude so I'll be looking at what add-on's are available to enhance those flights.

Bad

1. definitely

2. which

3. what's wrong?

4. welcome to the world of FSX tweaking (a must for stable FSX): see my guide for lots of tweaks, but most common crash preventers are FSUIPC (payware, a swiss knife for FSX, a must have), UIAutomationcore.dll fix and HIGHMEMFIX (search for each in detail, there are thousands of threads on these)

I highly recommend your read my guide in detail. It will reveal many things that are really important with FSX and your future FSX management. It is NOT an almighty guide that tells everything, but I tried to consolidate many things I learned over the years into one single text.

Weird

1. Impossible - then you are not doing something right

2. sorry, don't have it so can't help here

I reviewed that topic, lots of great detailed info there :) . I implemented most of the changes suggested and I noticed an immediate improvement in gwmeplay. I'm currently attempting a flight from Fort Lauderdale to LAX. Hopefully those tweaks will eliminate the stability problem.

I honestly did not think so many issues could be resolved with 1 post in 1 topic. That guide rocks :).

I've been flying for almost 6 hours non-stop now with no issues whatsoever. Your guide is definitely one of the first things anyone starting out with FSX should read.

Excellent work!!

yep,..... Word Not Allowed is THE MAN! im%20Not%20Worthy.gif when it comes to tweaks.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Although I played around for years with older versions of MS Flight Simulator, I am sort of new with FSX. If you take your time following the tweaking guides here on AVSIM and also remember to google any questions or issues you have as there are also other web sites that have also been of help.

One word of advice is as soon as possible, make a copy of your fsx.cfg (configuration file) before you start making tweaks. Also, print a copy of it and save it so that you can visually compare the original file with later tweaks that you make. I have found it of immense help to comment each line that I change. An example of a commented line follows:

HIGHMEMFIX=1 // This line added per bojotes Tweaker tool

Make sure to leave several spaces after the config line, followed by two forward slashes and then whatever description you want. This has helped me keep my sanity being able to see what lines I added.

Good Luck with FSX and Happy Flying

One more afterthought for a newbie on AVSIM. When in the forums, make ample use of the "Advanced" search tool located in the upper right hand corner in each forum. Simply click the geared icon; the one with the teeth around the edge. It gives you immense power to search topics. You can search all forums or an individual forum. Also, there is capability to limit your search to forum **les only, or **les and content. I find that by limiting my searches to **les only give me much better results.

So, in addition to Happy Flying, I say Happy Searching.

Done and doing

I have always made backups before changing anything.

Got into that habit when I did programming 18 years ago :)

Good Luck with FSX and Happy Flying

LOL :LMAO:

The Orbx problem is a weird one. I've done everything suggested on their forum and still see no difference. Must be my old eyes. I have no clue what to do with the 757 as I do not have that issue with any other aircraft.

If you're using only the freeware, it doesn't automatically activate the scenery after installation. I don't know if you've tried doing this yet, but if you go to Settings, then on the right Scenery Library, then Add Area, navigate to the ORBX folder, then the folder starting with FTX_, then open the folder of the airport you want to install, and click "OK." If you're using Windows 7, you'll have to click on the white space in the box below the list of folders after clicking "OK." You can repeat this for each airport.
