June 14, 201213 yr I was stuck with IE7 at work until late last year when the lease on my laptop expired and they replaced it. Our IT department is reluctant to update anything. On the bright side, nobody got stuck with a Vista machine.
June 14, 201213 yr I think it is a justified tax, especially when you can do something that is of free cost to fix it! Chris Miller
June 14, 201213 yr Author I think it is a justified tax, especially when you can do something that is of free cost to fix it! I don't think so. They said that their IT people worked very hard to get their new website layout to work with older, still used browsers like Internet Explorer 7. (I wonder why they didn't include Netscape on the extra cost thing...) i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
June 14, 201213 yr The retailer is being dishonest and arrogant. It isn't a tax -it's a surcharge. Only the state can impose taxes. If a retailer sells via the interenet it must expect to provide a system that meets the needs of it customers and not expect them to meet its needs. Gerry Howard
June 14, 201213 yr Author If a retailer sells via the interenet it must expect to provide a system that meets the needs of it customers and not expect them to meet its needs. Good one! But remember, this is in Australia so the laws may be different there. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
June 14, 201213 yr I'm active on a Model Railroad forum. They have some issues with IE8, and some users are forced to use "compatability mode" to get their posts to show up. It all shows why standards are important, and how hard it is to deal with the outlyers who don't adhere to them.
June 15, 201213 yr Lots of places give a discount when you pay cash or refuse American Express due to the higher charges the retailer has to pay them. This is sort of similar as it is the cost of doing business. It seams their IT guys spent a lot of overtime getting IE7 to work and the company is trying to recover those costs. And yes Australia has different laws and the products this company is selling are domestic products to Australians so no point on complaining about the way they do business if you are not an Aussie. If they don't like it they can complain to their local MP. This is a strange one though in my POV.... Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 15, 201213 yr I don't think so. They said that their IT people worked very hard to get their new website layout to work with older, still used browsers like Internet Explorer 7. (I wonder why they didn't include Netscape on the extra cost thing...) That's why I said it was justified and that the customer could easily do something free to avoid the charge. Chris Miller
June 15, 201213 yr Its probably more of an advertising thing I bet... it has gone viral after all and now we know about KOGAN :Pig: what is IE7?
June 15, 201213 yr Smarter thing to do would be to hide it in the price of product or in the delivery handling fees. But this is more upfront, however obviously not popular! Funny thing is its actually better this way, because you can still avoid it. If they hid it in the other prices there would be no avoiding.
June 15, 201213 yr I think the point is not to scam customers Smarter thing to do would be to hide it in the price of product or in the delivery handling fees. But this is more upfront, however obviously not popular! Funny thing is its actually better this way, because you can still avoid it. If they hid it in the other prices there would be no avoiding. I don't think the point of the surcharge is to scam customers out of money, rather, encourage them to adopt a new browser. As a web developer myself, i know just how much of a pain Internet Explorer 7 (and older) can be when trying to get a website display properly. The majority of the time, the rest of the other 'big browsers' will display it the exact same way, IE just seems to make up its own rules, although newer releases are getting better. Andrew McCluskey
June 16, 201213 yr Much easier to find a different retailer. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
June 16, 201213 yr Much easier to find a different retailer. Didn't know it was so hard to click on an executable file. Chris Miller
June 18, 201213 yr Not to mention how much more secure your purchase would be from an up-to-date version of any browser. Now, adding a surcharge for using IE9 would be criminal... It is understandable and easily circumvented by running with an appropriately updated browser. Looks like a bit of marketing to make a point. Never used IE7 unless I REALLY had to. FF and Safari on the MacPhone until such time as I can have FF on that... A Andrew Entwistle
