July 8, 201213 yr Hi, My question regarding creating flight plans with Plan-G (in the other thread) has certainly been answered with a vengeance! Very informative and enjoyable tutorial. Thanks. It seems to me that MS would be ambivalent about making the data derived from the FSX database available for use in Flight. Perhaps even tacitly supportive, all things considered. Regarding the accuracy of the database: Shortly after I heard of GMAP I created a flight plan in FSX that included every airport in Hawaii. I noticed that there was disagreement with the FSX data and the Flight location at several airports. Probably not enough error to cause problems but, where there was disagreement, the location shown in Flight's top down view and GMAP were in close agreement.
July 8, 201213 yr Is Plan-G acting buggy for anyone else? It keeps getting stuck on one zoom level, and when panning it will snap back to where it got stuck. Which is making it pretty much impossible to use... Any ideas?
July 8, 201213 yr The airport/navaid data used in Flight is at least two years old, as that is when the Kona VOR moved from the old "IAI" site near the old Kona airport to the new "KOA" site at the new Kona airport. I'm not sure how much older, but if people are seeing deviations from FSX data then it would be more recent than 2005ish. But was the difference actual airport/navaid information (radio frequencies, navaid sites, approach lighting differences and so on), or just slight position differences on the map?

Which is making it pretty much impossible to use... Any ideas? Been using it all day and no problems, made 4 different flight plans. Maybe reinstalling will fix your problem.
July 9, 201213 yr This tutorial is a follow up on this one: http://forum.avsim.n...on-one-monitor/ ... Again, MAJOR thanks for providing these! There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
July 9, 201213 yr Is Plan-G acting buggy for anyone else? It keeps getting stuck on one zoom level, and when panning it will snap back to where it got stuck. Which is making it pretty much impossible to use... Any ideas? No, never had that and I've been using Plan-G for quite some time (the last version since the day it was released). I only have two problems: I used to get messages about scripts not being able to run (which was solved by a MS-fix: see http://www.tasoftwar....php?topic=78.0 ) and quite often (and that still happens) mouse wheel zoom won't work. But in that case I can zoom with the onscreen controls. So maybe if your zoom is stuck, you could try the onscreen controls? About the snapping: no idea. Almost sounds like you turned on a feature (like when GMap is connected and the screen snaps back to the plane when you try to move the map)... EDIT Just checked the manual, and this can't really be it, but on the top right you see three buttons: Locked, Sync and Free. Is Free enabled? This IS a feature that could cause snapping (if Locked or Sync is enabled) but it should only work when Plan-G is connected to FSX or FS9, so I doubt if this will help... but it's worth a shot.
July 9, 201213 yr Fantastic tutorial, Jeroen. (as always) Well done. Plan-G has a few bugs here..Updating JAVA will help with a few of them..Also, exclude the Plan-G and Google Earth (if you have it) from your AV scanner.. JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
July 9, 201213 yr Thanks a lot. I've been looking for flight planning software for MS Flight for a quite a while now.
July 9, 201213 yr I think the bug is me. As long as I take it slow, no odd behavior. Can anyone trying rapidly zooming in and out, as well as panning across large areas? And switching between terrain and earth view frequently? This might confirm it is just a case of me outpacing the program.
July 10, 201213 yr Today I finally had the time to do a job with a Plan-G flightplan and GMap. I chose an airport that was somewhere in the mountains: without Plan-G and GMap I would have had no other choice then to take off and climb ASAP to get over the high surrounding mountains in order to fly straight to where the R key showed me to go. Not climbing would almost certainly mean I would end up in a dead end street somewhere. And flying straight to the destination at a higher altitude would be a bit boring too. Not with Plan-G and GMap. After choosing the job I simply searched for the airports names in Plan-G (so easy to do) and plotted a flight following the valleys. It was already becoming dark and without GMap I would have been lost without a doubt, but instead of that, and having a boring job flying straight to my destination, I had wonderful low and slow flight! Imho some jobs are impossible to do without a proper map because in those hight mountains it's sometimes impossible to climb so quickly and you will get lost if you stay low! The plan. Imaging doing a straight A to B flight or keeping low and guessing where to turn... Without GMap I would have been lost here unless I climbed over those mountains.
July 10, 201213 yr For me , Plan G and Gmap has brought Flight to an entirely new level. If MS were smart they would make the data base that is needed available for folks to download officially. It can only help promote Flight..... I had the same result using both programs in finding Beaver Airport this morning on a snowy day, without Gmap I would still be circling or have run out of gas by now.
July 10, 201213 yr Watch out for the three giant spruces at the south end of the Lawing runway! I barely slipped between them last night landing. :o
July 10, 201213 yr If MS were smart they would make the data base that is needed available for folks to download officially. Well, it's tuesday and I noticed the MS mods have been on the official forum and they haven't complained (or said anything) about that database file, so... I guess it's fine with them. I edited the openingspost and added a link to the topic on Steam that has the database file for download. (I didn't and won't post a direct link to the file because it is on someone's private Skydrive folder.) If they remove that link or say something about it there, I will remove the link from the OP again.

Everyone should download it ASAP, anyway, even if they don't plan to use Plan G right away.
