Thanks for helping out with that file. It has made a world of difference, being able to use G Plan, for those that don't own FS9 or X anymore.

You are most welcome, I'm surprised the author of Plan-G didnt include it, as the FSX SDK has been available for sometime, which obviously relaxes the licensing issue somewhat , although the file isnt directly a part of FSX anyway, it is built from infomation that is held within FSX.

I find Plan-G to be a valuable aid to flying VFR in Alaska and thought it rather silly that a Free App was restricted by the need for a database file that is built from outside of itself, so I hosted the file after building the database in Plan-G. I am glad to help the Flight Community where I can, as I wish to see MS Flight succeed and little apps like this add further interest and therefore support to it.

I think I read somewhere that he tried to do that, and couldn't get the OK. I am really surprised that Flight didn't give an immediate OK for this, cause it certainly benefits the users of Flight. Maybe, they just don't want to support 3rd party add-ons and wind up with the myriad of problems that previous sims had with 3rd party apps. I am even hesitant now to have something added to Flight, that might start a chain reaction of stutters, crashes, lock ups, and other problems that I lived with for years. Flight on my middle of the road computer is the smoothest most fluid running simulator I have ever seen, and I want to keep it that way.

I am the owner of the database file that's posted on the Steam Forums ..and you have my permission to post a link to the file(s) that are hosted on my Skydrive.

Thanks, I edited the OP!

I asked the developer of Plan-G about this and he said it wasn't allowed... so that's why I didn't even post a link to your post on Steam at first. But because the MS mods of Steam don't seem to mind about the database being posted online, it's fine with me also. Anyway, that's the reason it's not included with Plan-G...!

I`m really stuck with this. I have tried all the suggestions and I just cannot get GMap to `see' my flight plan folder. I`ve tried renaming it, using Docs and Settings instead of just Docs , moving the plans file to C:\Plans and adjusting the .ini file to suit.

Nothing seems to work.

That's weird, because i had it first time right. You still get the message that the Flightplan-folder can't be found?

Perhaps you made a typo when creating the ini-file? It is supposed to be -> FSWidgetsGMAP.ini

Mark

Tried changing to GMAP from GMap but it makes no difference.

Where are you putting the .ini file? It should be in the GMAP folder.

Maybe move the GMAP folder itself to another location or drive?

Very odd... Let's do it ALL from the beginning again and keep it as simple as possible...

1. Create a new folder on C:\ and call it GMap

2. Put FSWidgetsGMap.exe in it

3. Create a textfile in it and copy and paste the following into it:

[Plans]

plansfolder=C:\GMap

Save the file and rename it to FSWidgetsGMap.ini (make sure the extension is .ini and not something else, so not .txt or .exe!)

You should have two files in the GMap folder: FSWidgetsGMap.exe and FSWidgetsGMap.ini (and perhaps the Readme.txt that came with GMap).

That should be it... If this doesn't work, I haven't got a clue...

Save the file and rename it to FSWidgetsGMap.ini (make sure the extension is .ini and not something else, so not .txt or .exe!)

Good point! If you have "hide file extensions" set in your Windows Folder Options (which is the silly default setting), there may be a hidden ".txt" on the end of the file name, causing this to fail.

Since I'm one of the oddballs that still has both FS9 and FSX installed (I make my living creating aircraft for them!)...

...I simply pointed my .ini file to my FSX Flightplans folder! B)

[Plans]
plansfolder=C:\Users\Bill\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files

I've shared a folder on my Skydrive ... drop a copy of your .ini file into it and I will take a look at it for you.. link is here

REMOVED

Oh BTW, the .ini file has to be in the same folder as the FSWidgetsGMap.exe file that you are running Gmap from

P.S. Make sure you have some plans in the Plans folder, I know this sounds obvious, but I made that mistake once and thought it wasnt working.

EDIT: I have removed the shared folder as it is now not required.

SUCCESS!!!!!!

I now know where I was going wrong. I created the text file and pasted the plansfolder text in correctly. But when it came to renaming it I left out the .txt from the end but a box appeared warning me that if I renamed like this it could become unusable! Well with me not being experienced in creating and renaming folders of this type ( I have created and named and renamed lots of normal folders) I felt it best to take heed of the warning and leave the .txt there thinking it was supposed to be there. It was not until I just went ahead and renamed it anyway to see what would happen that it was sorted.

Also I had to take the plans I had downloaded and place them directly in the C:\GMap folder , not in a folder in the C:\GMap folder. Left in the folder the plans folder would open in the game but it would not see the plans. So I now have one folder -

C:\GMap

with the GMap.exe , .ini file and all my flightplans all together nice and neat and tidy. I like to be tidy! lol

I would like to say a BIG THANKYOU to you all for having the patience to put up with me. :good:

Now I can get on with more of this - :p0504:

(J van E maybe you should mention about the .txt in your tutorial. I might not be the only one confused)

 Glad it's all working now!

Now you know how it works, you could change the folder for GMap and/or your flightplans to anything you want, but if C:\GMap works fine for you now, you might as well keep it at that.

I added a line about changing the extension to the tutorial!

BTW I am not sure what made you think you had to create folder IN that folder for the flightplans, but I also changed the info about that a little.

I didn`t actually create the folder for the flightplans. They were in there when I downloaded them so I thought this was where they should be and just moved it to the GMap folder. Thanks for adjusting the tut.
