How to create flightplans in Plan-G and use them in GMap

Featured Replies

BTW Plan-G is a 'deep' program with a lot of possibilities (although a lot of it won't have any use yet in Flight): it's AMAZING the program is free...!!! It's also pretty nice the basic version of GMap is free!

@all Plan-G users: So don't forget to donate!

:good:

Got it working and made my first flight plan (thanks) but with one weird anomaly... I have to run it full-screen. If I try it windowed, when I pass my cursor over the right edge of the Plan-G window, it crashes. (?)

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

Done. Followed the instructions and now it works perfectly! Gmap and Plan G are great additions to Flight. Even though I don't have alaska being able to make a flight plan is very fun.

Thanks again to Jeroen for the tutorial and to FSWidgets for the add-ons!

Ok, I've now taken Jobs to a couple of airports, to then discover that they are not in the FSX database for Plan G. I saw on the Plan G forum that they are not expecting support for Flight to be implemented any time soon, so we're not going to be able to just build a database from Flight for a while (if ever).

Is there an easy way (heck, or a hard way... I'll learn) to edit the FSX database Plan G uses, so we can fix the deviations? I took a quick look around and didn't find anything obvious.

I actually had an airport that was in Plan G that was not in Flight, today. Had a lot of fun looking for that airport in the early dawn in Northwest Alaska. Finally realized after much circling and sweating that it wasn't there.

Hm, that's too bad... I doubt if MS will give us an ingame planner anytime soon...

Maybe it is in PlanG, but under a slightly different name?

Sometimes you've got about 5 aiports in the same area (1 bigger, and 4 smaller for example) and it could be they are not all grouped under the same city in PlanG. I had a similar problem yesterday, but eventually I found it.

In my case it was Secluded Lake (49AK) - just out of the top of my head.

I couldn't find it as a city in Alaska, and I eventually found it by sorting ALL the airports alphabetically by name.

About other names: that could well be it, at least for some airports. I had that once. I couldn't find a certain airport in Plan-G, forgot the name, it was something like Newly Evan Airport: when I searched for Newly I found nothing, but when I searched for Evan I did found it: in FSX the airport was called Evan Airport without Newly.

I've been searching AirNav for ICAO codes and entering them into Plan G. I figured that would eliminate any Plan G issues, as the codes should not be inconsistent like names can be.

The "problem" airport I had last night was Henley (75AK). It's not on current sectionals, but Airnav doesn't indicate it's an uncharted airport (a lot of small private ones are kept off the published charts by request of the owner). It didn't show up in Plan G, or in GMap's nav data, but it is in Flight as a Job destination. It's only 4nm from Kenai, so I made a plan to Kenai and that was close enough.

Interesting... I just noticed that Henley's Activation date is 03/2007. This is the first confirmation I have see that Flight's airfield/navaid data is not simply recycled from FSX!

This is why PlanG and presumably GMap don't know about it... it's too new.

Ah, the joys of dealing with non-synchronized databases.

With the "new" Kona VOR arriving around 2010 (I still have not found an firm activation date for it) and not being included in Flight, that narrows the possible time-frame of Flight's source data considerably.

Well, assuming they are not collecting current data for each new area they start working on. If so, by the time the DLC is released, it's out of date anyway... Note the movement of the Anchorage VOR earlier this year.

Ok, GMap installed and working great - just did an emergency landing somewhere in Alaska - beautiful environment at dusk - and it helped quite a LOT. Thank you all for your tutorials...

I still have to make it run with MS FLIGHT in full screen. I didn't have the time to read Jeroen's tutorial on that, and I believe I need yet another application to make it work (?)

Also, what charts do you recommend to go with it, both for Hawaii and Alaska? Should I buy it from FSWidgets?

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I've been playing around with Plan G a little bit, but I'm having a problem where my plane on the map does not point in the same direction as my plane in the game, so on the map it looks like I'm flying sideways... Anyone else had this problem?

The developer is working on this problem. Most of the time, by closing Gmap down once flying and restarting it, the heading will be corrected.

I've been using the flight plans from this post on the Steam forums and it's been good for me so far since I'm too lazy to make my own  Not sure if that's exactly what you mean, but it could be useful anyway!

The Alaska Sectionals for GMap are $10. Probably worth it.

The US Sectionals (lower 48 states + Hawaii) for GMap are $15. That's a little excessive just to get Hawaii, but I will get them if we do get more scenery areas in the US.

The world-wide Nav Data covers all airports and navaids for $10. Also nice to have, as you can easily find airport elevation and runway directions, along with VOR freqs.

For all this, though, keep in mind that the data source FSWidgets is using seems to be appropriate for FSX, but it turns out that Flight actually is using more recent data. So, expect to find a few inconsistencies between Flight and the GMap data.

I don't see any point in buying WACs for GMap... just zoom out further if you want to see a wider area.

If we get a plane more appropriate for higher altitudes, the IFR Low charts for GMap may become worthwhile for Flight, too.
