  1. I tried the gold rush with the RV yesterday and stalled on the first climb a few hoops into it... Haven't tried it since
  2. Yeah, I guess I'll just turn off the torque effect in the menu, at least until I get used to flying with a joystick. Maybe once it gets a little too easy I'll switch it back, but that will definitely make landing less frustrating!
  3. Thanks for the explanation, I suspected it might be something like this. So what's the easiest way to alleviate this? With the rudder or the ailerons? I used the ailerons when I only had my PS3 controller, but I'm finding that more difficult with the joystick.
  4. These seem really cool, I can't wait to try them out. I think I'll watch the episodes first to prep myself :good: Thanks for posting these for us!
  5. Hey guys, I finally got around to buying a joystick for playing Flight, and I decided on the Logitech 3D pro as a good starter stick. I'm finding it significantly more difficult than flying with the PS3 controller I had been using, but I'm redoing all the landing challenges to get myself used to flying with the stick. I have a question about bank trim... Sorry if I don't use the right terminology, just let me know if my language is too ambiguous or flat out wrong and I'll try and explain it better. Basically, my plane always banks to the left. It happened with my PS3 controller, but I'm pretty handy with one of those so it wasn't a big deal to adjust for it. With the new joystick, however, it's something that really detracts from the quality of my flying, and it's really frustrating to constantly be making adjustments especially with my skill level being so low with the stick. I found a "bank trim" option, or something to that effect, in the options menu and bound it to some buttons on the joystick, but it doesn't seem to have any effect at all, at least in the RV-6. Is that just not a feature of that plane? How can I make my plane fly straight without my constantly babysitting the stick? Is this the natural movement of the plane due to the torque of the prop? Thanks! P.S. There's no way to see windspeed and direction without the HUD on, is there? :sorry:
  6. Welcome to video games! These forums are amongst the most civil of video game fora, but I've yet to come across one without entitled gamers who complain about everything.
  7. They definitely are not perfect, but they are a great resource for people like me who have never played a flight sim or flown a plane before... I just wrote down the steps I need to remember so I don't have to use the in game checklist, but I'm finding I need it less and less. It's only about a dozen steps anyway, and most of them are pretty logical.
  8. Yeah, I've noticed that my gas pressure is always waaay higher than the checklist says it should be. My plane hasn't exploded yet so I think it's OK though :unknw:
  9. GMap for Android!? Well since I lost my phone last week (Windows Phone 7) I guess I know what OS I'll have on my new phone B)
  10. That's fair, but I think you're missing out without GMap. You can pop it up for a few seconds at a time so it doesn't actually block the screen the whole time, just whenever you need to look at it. It would be great to have that kind of functionality built into the cockpit though!
  11. ' Microsoft Flight uses SpeedTree technology I think... So generally speaking you are right, but with the sheer amount of trees visible at an altitude of thousands of feet even SpeedTree would start to hog resources.
  12. I wish I could contribute to topics like these, but I always have to run Flight on medium since I have to play on my laptop... Oh well, maybe when I build my desktop I can complain about tree density
  13. Good stuff, I'm impressed that you're really committed to seeing all the airports! Nice landing in that video too, I wish I could approach under control like that ^_^ I always have way too much speed...
  14. Not sure I'll be picking this up right away... I've been moving through the planes slowly trying to get some semblance of mastery with each one before moving onto the next. I've done the Icon, the Stearman, and I'm currently working on the RV-6. After that will be the Maule, and then we'll see about buying the Cub!
  15. This reminds me of the TV show ReBoot. What a great show.
  16. UPDATE It works!! It will definitely need some tweaking, but the basic idea is there! The main problem seems to be that when I look down the camera pans up. I'm sure that jiggering around with it will fix that though. The first time I booted it up with the TrackIRFixer, Flight told me that I had a corrupted install and booted me to my desktop, but it worked like a charm the second time. Be warned that this involves disabling the security GFWL has set up to prevent you from doing this, so unexpected results might occur and your mileage may vary. I haven't had the chance to do anything but confirm that it works, so there may be issues I haven't run into yet. This was done using the beta (1.60) version of FaceTrackNoIR and the most recent version of TrackIRFixer. For the cost of a $10 webcam this is an awesome alternative to TrackIR.
  17. Nice flying! That is one janky as hell way to get a cockpit in the Cub though
  18. Is there a way to set Gmaps to not recenter on my location automatically? If I'm trying to look at a different part of the map it always just snaps back to my plane. I know I could just zoom out to get a look at it all, but I would like to be able to zoom in on a different part too...
  19. I haven't actually played the copy of Alaska I got on Steam yet, but it looks to me like the graphical settings are set pretty low in this screenshot, which might explain why it looks like Lego! I could be wrong though: like I said I haven't had the chance to play Alaska yet to see for myself.
  20. Wow, kudos to you guys for taking this on! It's communities like this and the people in them that make simulators really fantastic. There's only so much a developer can do with minute details like this so it's really great that someone is willing to pick up where they left off. I wish I could help, but when I start to hear things like "SQL queries" I tend to plug my ears and hum loudly :p0302: Keep it up, I can't wait to see the results!
  21. Yeah, I basically pretend that the airplanes without cockpits don't exist. Solves the problem for me haha The Carbon Cub is getting a virtual cockpit soon, but I would bet that even if you have the Alaska pack you're still going to have to pay to add the cockpit to it.
  22. Thanks for all the info, very helpful. I looked into the PSeye build before, but I thought I would try this with a cheap webcam first. I haven't had any problems getting detected by the program, just Flight itself. I want to address this really quickly: all I really want is left, right, up, and down, and I actually tried FaceTrackNoIR's mouselook setting, but I couldn't get it working with Flight either... the cursor just kind of spazzed out in the middle of the screen no matter what I did with my face. Is that just a sensitivity/crappy webcam problem or something that could actually be fixed?
  23. I've been using the flight plans from this post on the Steam forums and it's been good for me so far since I'm too lazy to make my own Not sure if that's exactly what you mean, but it could be useful anyway!
  24. I've been playing around with Plan G a little bit, but I'm having a problem where my plane on the map does not point in the same direction as my plane in the game, so on the map it looks like I'm flying sideways... Anyone else had this problem?
  25. Thanks for the quick responses guys. And thanks RoboRay, I'll check out the Steam forums to see if that helps. I'll let you know if I get it working! If I do, it could be useful for others considering how much cheaper it is than the real thing. EDIT: Ok, so the solution is found in this thread, or directly on this site. It's called TrackIRFixer... I haven't tried it yet since I'm at work but I definitely will update to let you know how it goes. That's quite the memory you have there RoboRay, you led me right to it!
