You do realise with MyTraffic X you can "go back in time" and fly in 1985 with that era's airlines? Thats why the old stuff is there.

Yeah that's nice. Your advertising of MTX spaming other non related topics is not needed. The only problem with your claim is the lists for those out of date UPS airplanes has their year going to 2020, so they are still active in the game if you are flying today. So like I said, MTX is horribly out of date with their plans and airplane assignments.

I just got UT2 recently and found that there are quite a few bungles in the Aircraft.cfg entries supplied with various 3rd-party models. As I recall I had this same problem when installing the FDX 752. Anyway, try this:

 

In your FDX aircraft.cfg entry, change:

 

ui_manufacturer=Boeing

 

to this:

 

ui_manufacturer=Alpha India

 

If all of the other installation steps were done correctly, the aircraft should now appear in the Repaints Assignment pop-up list when you select "Alpha India".

When you start to modify UT2 by adding schedules/paints/models, you should put together a method of organizing your aircraft.cfg entries. If you visit the UT2 registered user forum, you will find a lot of different approaches to this but having some file organization method is the most important thing.

 

In the aircraft repaints section of the UT2 GUI the following drop down boxes are mapped to the following aircraft.cfg entries.

 

Aircraft Manufacturer = ui_manufacturer

Aircraft Type = ui_type

Variation = ui_variation

 

For ui_manufacturer, I throw away the developer name and keep thing simple - AI BOEING, AI AIRBUS, AI EMBRAER...

For ui_type, I also keep things simple. I don't care if it is 747-452 or what not, I say 747-400, 737-400...

For ui_variation, I use the airline and something unique like Delta Breast Cancer or Southwest New Mexico. This field is also very important. While ui_manufacturer & ui_type should be consistent, ui_variation must be unique. For example, Delta may have 5 different variations of 757-200's out there but if you make all of the ui_variations "Delta", UT2 doesn't know which one you want. They all need unique names.

 

BTW, the drop down menus in UT2 are case sensitive so be consistent.

 

There are 2 utilities that are really helpful. The most popular one is AI-Aircraft Editor available here: http://www.interkultur.de/gossmann/fsx/

 

My favorite utility of all time is ACA2005. With ACA, you can sort all of your AI aircraft by several fields from the aircraft.cfg. It makes the process of spotting inconsistencies really easy. The main problem with ACA is it was never updated for FSX so you have to trick it to thinking FS9 is installed. If you don't have FS9 (not installed, just access to a few files), this will be difficult. Also, there is some functionality lost but for the most part, if you get it working it is still the best by far. ACA2005 is available here: http://aifs2.pvdveen.net/. If you want to install it with FSX, I will go in to more detail.

My favorite utility of all time is ACA2005. With ACA, you can sort all of your AI aircraft by several fields from the aircraft.cfg. It makes the process of spotting inconsistencies really easy. The main problem with ACA is it was never updated for FSX so you have to trick it to thinking FS9 is installed. If you don't have FS9 (not installed, just access to a few files), this will be difficult. It has been a while but I believe this is how it works.

 

There are a few basic steps after you download ACA2005. BTW, ACA2007 lite does work with FSX but it doesn't have a lot of features.

 

You need to create a dummy FS9 directory with the files/folders that ACA2005 looks for. Here is what my dummy folder looks like:

The Aircraft folder is a symbolic link to the simobjects folder in your FSX install that contains your AI aircraft (I think I created a junction). You also need to place the airlines.cfg from your FS9 aircraft folder in to your simobjects\Aircraft folder. For the scenery\world\scenery folder, ACA2005 doesn't need any files, it just needs the directory. Lastly, you need to place the fs9.exe in the main FS9 folder.

 

That's basically the process. The functionality that is lost in FSX is everything that involves flightplans, timetables and AFCADS. Also, because it was made for FS9, it can only look at one aircraft folder. Still, you can sort your aircraft, delete aircraft.cfg entries (and associated textures), renumber and modify the aircraft.cfg.

Thanks, it works great! Very nice functionality for scanning for errors. I'm just looking for a complete airlines.cfg file. The one in the FSX folder only contains the default FSX airlines.
