July 30, 201213 yr Hi, I am thinking of purchasing Radar Contact 4 by download, but I see all the problems people have with the modern OS Windows 7. 1)Can anyone reassure me that RC4 will work on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit? 2) on a similar note, does it run ok with FSCaptain and UT2? Many thanks :)
July 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks very much, I don't mind it being difficult to get up and running as long as I get there in the end, so it's just good to know for sure that someone is happy with it! Cheers :)
July 30, 201213 yr Hi Radar Contact runs just fine on Windows 7 64 bit and installs without any problems. I do nothave FS Captain so I cannot comment but runs with UT2 without any trouble. In the pinned topics at the top of the forum some advice is given as to the best settings for UT2.Worth a read! July 30, 201213 yr Moderator The general advice when installing programs like RC4 in W7 is to avoid the Program Files folder. Install it to C:\RC43 and you'll avoid all the security problems of the Program Files folder. Ray (Cheshire, England). July 30, 201213 yr If your FS app is in a program files folder you'll probably need to set the shortcut to RC with a Run Admin property for program, not user, access level privileges. If you have MSSE installed you might have to tell it to bypass RC. Check the error 75 topic on bypassing RC from the various security applications. With your version of Win 7, MS did not include some of the run-time library files needed included in earlier Win versions. Check the pinned 713 topic on sources of and installing these missing files. The pinned AI topic has a comment on UT2 but basically it says to set its ai spawning distance to maximum so RC can monitor ai before it assigns runways especially on approach to reduce ai conflicts. In RC's real time ai chatter (don't use prerecorded chatter) you may hear an ai tail number instead of the flight number because UT2 doesn't pick that up until later in the departure process. Regarding FS Captain I don't know but RC has a key assignment tab so if necessary you can change RC's menu key assignments so as not to conflict with other applications.
July 31, 201213 yr Author Thanks to all of you for the really helpful information, now I'm just trying to decide between Radar Contact and MultiCrew Experience - I shall watch a few more video demos :)
July 31, 201213 yr now I'm just trying to decide between Radar Contact and MultiCrew Experience Hello Be aware that MCE is not an ATC program, you will gain a copilot and voice control over the default ATC. The fact that you were looking at Radar Contact tells me that you are not entirely happy with Default ATC, so MCE is not your answer if better ATC was your intention.
July 31, 201213 yr Author Thanks mad dog, it's a difficult choice, as I would like better ATC which RC definitely offers, but I think what I really want most a the moment is to reduce the 'selection boxes' and talk direct to ATC, which unfortunately narrows the choice to MCE. I will continue using the MCE demo till it runs out and see if it offers what I want - it's a shame there isn't an RC demo as well. Thanks again
July 31, 201213 yr Hello I talk directly to RC and PFE using http://www.dwvac.com/ You need to create your own profile for RC but it is simple enough. I have MCE but much prefer to use VAC as I can set up my voice responses to suit my way own of interacting with RC. that way I do not need to memorise anything, or should I say, find it easier to remember the phrases as I wrote them myself. There is also "It's your plane" which has a RC mode as well as a copilot. http://www.superatc.com/startup.asp?p=/html/home.asp
July 31, 201213 yr Author Those are interesting suggesitons as well thank you, I'll have a look at both of them.
July 31, 201213 yr Author mad dog, just one more question if you don't mind - I looked at the dwvac site, which looks interesting and I wonder, you mention creatng your own profile for RC, but why not create one for FSX? - what is to stop me using this program alone, to talk directly to the default ATC? So for instance, would it allow me to make up my own phrase to select '1 contact Shawbury ground' , and so on for all relevant atc selections? This would give me the freedom to vary my phrases to the MS ATC. I could then add RC or any other program later if I wanted to.
July 31, 201213 yr Hello You could do that, try the demo and see if you get on with it. You can also start adding commands such as gear up, flaps up/down and gradually build up your profile to totally control FSX and ATC by voice. VAC allows multiple phrases for the same action/key-send so you can introduce some variation in phrasing Like all Voice recognition programs it works best if you set up a button on your controller for PTT (push to talk) that way the voice recognition is only listening when you press the button and muted the rest of the time and does not react to external sounds that might be around you, improves speech recognition accuracy a great deal. To do this with VAC you will need a registered copy of FSuipc to pass that button to FSX.
July 31, 201213 yr Author Sounds good, I'll download the demo and give it a go, your help is much appreciated :)
July 31, 201213 yr Hi Guys, For what it's worth, MCE will also allow you to create your own dialogues and associate your phrases to specific key inputs and actions. The only downside is having to stick with MS atc. Cheers Lin
