One of those unique features that FLIGHT has....

Featured Replies

Pick the Maule (although any of the "Deluxe" aircraft will do, less the Carbon Cub(?)) and chose a windy weather theme like "Squalls" to have strong and shitfing winds with turbulence

Pick pick it up to say, 4000'. Prepare your outsidez "F11" view to focus on one of the ailerons, or the elevator, or even the rudder.

When tossed by the gusts/turbulence the control surfaces will move, and so will the Yoke/manche and rudder, reflecting the forces applied on them.

I've tested it with the joystick unattached because otherwise (probably because of not being FF) it acts like if you were rigidly holding the controls, and freezing them in their positions...

It works both in mouse control mode, or keyboard mode.

This "force feedback" in the controls is, as far as I know, unique to FLIGHT!

Enjoy!

First in the MS franchise to crash and burn so quickly? It's unique to FLIGHT!

It didn't crash, and less did it burn! Otherwise I wouldn't be flying it daily :-)

Ah! It was simply a Go Around!!!!

Shutte, just out of curiosity, did you try FLIGHT? If so, preferably including what are called "deluxe" aircraft, and given that you work in the Aviation Industry, and are a dedicated flight simmer, all I wanted to get from you is how you found MS FLIGHT regarding flight dynamics, environment modelling and the way these concur to provide a "sensation of being at the controls of a GA aircraft" on a PC-based simulator, with all of the limitations it naturally implies, and having as a base of comparison FSX, another excellent simulation platform specially when it comes to diversity of add-ons, world coverage, etc...

If possible, if you will care to answer, please try to focus only on the way FLIGHT translates the "sensation of flying".

Thanks in advance for your contribution!

Simply a Flight Sim enthusiast and a worker in the real world aviation industry voicing my opinion. Why are you here?

Simply to fly, thank you very much.

Why are you here?

Well considering these are his first posts in the Flight forum, and it would seem his time on Avsim is spent in other non-Flight forums here, mainly related to FSX, this is what I would call just a " drive by". It is sad some feel the need to do this, but it is what it is I guess. And it is sad, that this just paints a not so pretty picture, especially to newer folks, of flight simulator enthusiasts.

Usually best to just ignore comments like these and shrug them off, at least that is what I am going to try to do.

While development has ended for Flight , for now, it does live on in it's current incarnation, and most of the folks here are like us, folks who are enjoying what we do have with Flight.

I doubt you're getting much flight time here on the forums. To each their own. He doesn't like it, you do. The world turns.

@jcomm - I found Flight to be just simply to "arcade-ish" for my tastes. From the beginning I had my doubts on the success of it. It started with promise, a freely downloadable base package which you could experience, and I was hoping for something great, but that is about as far as it went. They began to release their warbirds which featured a lack of cockpit and were in my opinion, over-priced for what they were. What I didn't like most of all was that MS seemingly didn't listen to the community, when feedback was provided from various forums and users of the product, not a lot was done. Obviously we couldn't expect things to change over-night, but at least promise of a change would be beneficial.

I felt that Flight had the potential to become so much more, with the release of Alaska however I was left with mixed feelings and then to understand that an SDK wouldn't be provided for external developers, I was further dissapointed. The poor project planning is in my opinion what resulted in the closure of development for Flight.

It looked nice though.

This is not needed. BTW, Flight was NOT the first MS franchise to crash and burn so quickly. The last MSFS didnt even make it off the ground before it crashed. So whats that say?

I'm sorry I even posted in the thread. Its all pointless, in the end.

And like you said. Sad.

There will be another like it tomorrow or later in the week or whatever. I am going to ignore it.

Purely my own observations... The initial feelings of anyone who has got used to the serious side of flying a computer game is usually upset by having to 'learn how to fly' after all, they are proficient and have earned their wings, haven't they? Then, they see the hoops. This can lead to feelings of being treated like a beginner and other non positive emotions which I won't go into here but will leave to the imagination.

The new user, who has not gained his or hers computer game ppl may actually have some fun, and this kickstart can even lead some to get their full ppl.

Some, who have many computer game ppl's had to re-learn the rather strange concept of having fun and went on to gain the full licence. I'm not entirely sure at what point in time it happens whilst getting your Flight ppl, but at some point it does, it's a rather an eye opening experience.

Imho the world is made up of people who look where they are going and never look up, and those that do!

Nuff said.
