So far, I've been using vataware.com for route data and http://www.aopa.org/airports for data on SID's and STAR's. This combo has been working pretty well so far. Still trying to get a handle on reading the STAR diagrams as some of them are a little confusing due to the amount of data presented on a page.

Add's to the fun I guess..

Is Topcats PFPX going to resolve all this?

Resolve what? PFPX looks very good, from the screenshots it's on par with one of it's commercial counterparts, jepplanner.

Basically the routes go like this...

Departure Procedure->Enroute fixes->STAR->Approach

Find a DP that connects to your first enroute fix, then a fix that connects to your arrival STAR etc

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |
| Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Now that www.skyvector.com has world-wide coverage you could always plan your own route.

Doesn't always work like that since flights in Europe follow standard routes.

I forgot my usual disclaimer....

On the other foot, your suggestion actually works quite well in Europe as well. Since the routes are standard you already know your first and last enroute fixes, so all you need to do is pick the right SID and STAR. In Europe that's extra easy since the SIDs and STARs are usually named after the fix they connect to (i.e. last fix of the SID, first fix of the STAR).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've done a couple of flights so far using vataware for route info and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (http://www.aopa.org/airports) for airport, SID and STAR info and it works well for flights in the US. I've also been using http://www.vatcar.org/website/ for Caribbean airport info. Every now and then I have a leg entry that says (VECTOR). I assume I would get this info from ATC? Currently I fly the plane manually to the next point that is either after the SID or to the start of the approach then hit the LNAV button. Is this correct?

You should be able to delete the VECTOR waypoint in the FMC.

Beech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?
ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

In real life you would get radar vectors to the approach at that time. Usually flown with heading select. Some times you can just delete the vector leg and fly directly from the final fix of the STAR to the initial approach fix, but if you arrive at a sharp angle (I would say more than 40-50 degrees is a sharp angle) then you would be better off giving yourself vectors, so that you can intercept the LOC at a 25-30 degrees angle.

EDIT: The above assumes that you are flying with no ATC. If you are flying with ATC then you just follow their instructions, of course
