Hey, I finally got around to reading this book. I'm only part-way through it, but can barely put it down. Thanks for the recommendation!
Glad you got it. Gives one a whole new appreciation of the common potato. Andy Weir has sold the rights to a major publication so no more digital format to be sold. Hard cover release February 2014.

Saying hello to you KSP folks (again). I had a bit of a pause (still have) when it comes to my sim time of any kind, but I was happy to see the KSP team adding a lot of interesting/fun stuff to the game.

So, if it was for me, I'd say you space nuts should keep reporting at Avsim. I especially enjoy the mission plans, pics and accident reports. I thumbed up some of those.

Heh, thanks. :-)

Big KSP update should be dropping in the next few days, and the Steam Summer Sale is underway, as well. Watch for a one-day price drop on KSP if you still haven't picked it up!

Hello guys!

Not a whole lot to report at the moment. I've finally managed a single-launch return trip to Moho and a disappointingly easy return trip to Eeloo. My current project is a return trip to Eve which is the only challenge left until Squad decides to expand the universe. Currently my lander is floating in a highly eccentric orbit waiting for more fuel.

That's a lander? Yikes, you will increase a planet's mass by some magnitudes with that. :P

I saw RoboRay pointing out the upcoming update. Am I right that it may change the save files thingies a bit? For preparing that career mode or something. As if I had a career.

Returning to orbit from the surface of Eve is quite challenging.  I haven't even attempted it, myself.  Enormous landers are required.  :)

Anyway...  KSP version 2.1 will break save-compatibility, yes.

Your older .craft designs will generally still work, but you will need to copy them over to the VAB and SPH folders in your new save-game.

Good thing planets runs on rails in KSP then. ;)

Actually It'll have to wait. I tried a descent which unfortunately ended in the sea and when I re-loaded the quicksave the game had decided to disconnect all the landing legs. Not sure how that could happen as there are no decouplers attached directly to the legs but no matter what it was it means I'm back at the launch pad. I wantded to get this done before the patch but I don't think I can be bothered now.

Now it struck me, you were on that Eve challenge.

I've read about that one before. Seems like a known bug if my memory is correct. Who needs landing legs anyway? ^_^

What challenge?

Well, with a lander that heavy and in such a strong gravity I need them. ;)

Don't worry, I was using the word challenge in the general meaning. Although they do post challenges and things in the forums and/or Reddit, right? Mmm, I may go for the one with the 'bring a rover to a surface and don't crash it there'. Quite a task for guys like me. Poor Kerbals.

Edited. I just saw that 0.21 has arrived.

I'm still in awe.  :Applause:  This is brilliant! Fortunately, the video description gives all the links to the stuff he's used plus the files for the vehicles.

Guess I really have to look for that attachment system (KAS).

Yeah, that's a really useful mod.  The new Procedural Fairings mod was my discovery there...  I've always pieced my payload fairings together from standardized parts, but this thing actually generates custom-shaped fairings right in the VAB that conform to whatever you install them over!  I immediately put them to use covering them LM on my adaption of the Saturn V and Apollo.

I'd never been able to do an authentic LM extraction before because the right fairing parts didn't exist.  I still didn't get the shape quite right on this first attempt, but I just discovered you can actually adjust the shape manually, so I'll be able to snug them down tighter around the LM next time.  :)

Now those look great indeed. I was always spoiled by the static fairing mods so far so hearing that they now kinda go 'auto-fit' sounds like a major improvement. Even if it's (currently) just for the optics in KSP.

I'm dreaming of some egg-shaped space ship now. ^_^ What? Engineering freedom that is!

Well, on that topic, here's my latest orbital taxi design, for personnel transfers between stations orbiting Kerbin and its moons:

The conical fuel tank is a NovaPunch part.  It can depart LKO, orbit the Mun, and return to LKO by aerobraking without refueling along the way.  :)
