Service Based Failures

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

Just discovered this, and after some reading I understand that it'll fail a few things after a certain amount of time - pretty cool feature and will certainly help with my QRH reading for those dreaded recurrent sim sessions.

Question, I've had it turned off so far, and I've done around 55 hours in EI-EFY - I've just turned it on. Is there any way of telling the failure manager that I've already done 55 hours or not? If that's how it works, anyway.

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

I dont think you can add already flown hours into the equation & after looking at the NGX Intro Document (pp86) I read it that the 'Mean Time Before Failure Rate' is linked to the total amount of airframe hours flown...not a specific tail number.

Only activated the same on mine this last week & the QRH is now loaded into the iPad & close at hand for the inevitable.

Those engines love to drink oil, my bird is still brand new and after 4 round trips between ORD and MIA the oil tanks needed a refill.

  • So switching between liverys in a 737-800 still counts as one mashine ?
  • At What niveau do you need to refill hydraulic and oil ?
  • Is Ipad a good solution to the QRH vs print?
  • looking forward to see FS2CREW simulate abnormal procedures
  • Thanks

Thats how I read it...could be wrong though.

One for a RW NG engineer or RW NG pilot to answer...I don't like to guess on such things.

Yep...get an app for about $5 that lets you view & manipulate pdf documents inside an iPad like Goodreader from the iTunes Store & you are away!

each livery has its own tail number, so it has its own counter of time. this is why i fly only one livery (swiss) , couse i want to see how many failures i will get in a 250 hours , before needing to do maitanens.

i have now about 160 hours left to maitanens, and so far only a couple of breaks high temp incidents.

i also work with the QRH on a tablet. very comfortable.

I wish PMDG can include an option to accelerate hours by a cerrtain number. Like 20x, 100x... etc.

This was one of the biggest features I was looking forward to but since I am unable to fly like a RW pilot and rarely the same livery it is very likely I will never see a failure.

I know its true to life but it's kind of a dissappointment for me.

if you want a failure you can always set your own failure up in the fmc if you want too

I know but I don't want to anticipate it. That's kind of boring.

It really depends on the airline SOP but when the engine oil gets down to 9 quarts I have it refilled.

There is a random failure generator.

I know about the random failure generator but that would defeat the purpose of having service based failures.

I do not want random failures, just an accelerated MTBF clock.

This still allows hydro and oil servicing which happens all the time to happen before something with a small percentage of failing like an engine.

Just my thought.

Hi all

I'm going around the world with the livery of Kulula zs-ZWP I just made 4 hours and already the oil is decreased ... I know I have to do maintenance before 250h

i also have only 87% oil in left side and 97% in right . just activated the failure system

Hi to all,

I can't remember at which level engine oil must be refilled (I can remember 66%) and I can remember where but it's stated into the NGX manual. Anyway indicators become yellow (if I well remember) if you're low on oil. In real life engine oil is refilled almost after every flight: very simple operation indeed: by opening a small door on engine side you can visually check engine oil level and refill them if necessary but usually no more than a can (0,5 liter) on short flight is necessary, you know turbofan are rotative engines..and drink very few oil...

Ciao
