October 1, 201213 yr Personally I rather the MD-11 than the NGX. Flying the NGX can get a bit dull sometimes. Nowadays I fly the MD-11 more than the NGX. Don't get me wrong, the NGX is fabulous but personally it doesn't offer too much of a challenge. Marlon Carter - AVSIM Reviewer
October 1, 201213 yr Agreed with the above, for all the NGX's greatness, I find myself in the MD-11 more. I like freighters a little more too, the MD-11F is the best long haul frieghter available IMHO. The MD is a little easier on my system FPS wise too. Here is a a really good article found on the PMDG knowlege base page. It really helps those who are used to the Boeing system to understand the MD style. I found it very helpful. http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a18/tips-for-boeing-pilots-learning-the-md-11.aspx?KBSearchID=86199 Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
October 1, 201213 yr The MD is a very pretty girl. She flies like a dream, can go the distance, and when light leaves the ground like a Saturn V. The NGX is a great addon and worth every penny...but the MD just clicks more of the "happy" buttons for me. Wish there was a v2. It seems she has a cult of MD converts and groupies. Daniel Fernandez
October 1, 201213 yr +1 for the MD-11 I just adimire and enjoy it more than the 737. I just wish I could get FDC Live cockpit 2011 to work on it!
October 2, 201213 yr I gotta say, even though the (somewhat) blurry overhead and other such graphic details turned me off for quite a while, whenever I get the chance to fly the MD I love it. The airplane is just so much different from the Boeings and Airbuses we're now used to seeing everyday. I especially love the automatic AC system, just for the reason that my first few flights in the NGX never left the ground because I forgot to turn my packs off. The FMC is a little bit different from Boeing, but in the Boeing-saturated sim market, thats just what we need. It truly is a beast to land though, I thought I was a cool guy, just because I could take the bird through a basic circuit, with the help of the LSAS. coming into landing, however, was anyone's guess...some days I could grease the landing and settle for the second taxiway, or somedays I would bounce right past 3'000 feet...oh the joys!
October 2, 201213 yr If you are out to simulate RL routes I guess the 737 is more your cup of tea as you will have a huge selection of routes. But, if you fly where you want or run your own airline, the MD-11 can compete in the amount of destinations you can fly to, but the other factor that will factor in is if you like automation. If you like the plane to handle most of it on its own without nagging at you to do X even if it knows the information from Y, the MD-11 is your choice, think of it as a hybrid between a Boeing and an Airbus. The NGX on the other hand is very manual, so you can expect to do most tasks manually, so it depends on what you prefer.
October 2, 201213 yr I've always found the mighty MD-11 easier to fly simply because of the automation, although you've got to be careful on the landings of course. She's my favourite addon, even 4 years (?) since she was released! Cheers, Chris D I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?
October 2, 201213 yr The MD-11 has actually never stood out to me. I actually love the old 737-300's! Especially in an EasyJet livery. (Yep, I spent my childhood watching Airline LOL!) - Luke Pabari
