Question for our US friends

That little lot would cost a grand total of £0 in the UK, in the vast majority of cases. That would include physio for treatment after the accident. If you couldn't afford your prescription drugs these would paid for as well.

Nothing costs 0.

I'm sure some would find a way to complain, humanity usually does...

unfortunately Ro, I can't argue with that.

Not having Health Insurance myself, I would not complain one bit. My voice on the subject though, is one in a billion. I do hope with time, that we start seeing a change in our healthcare for the better.

Not everyone deserves a Ferrari, but EVERYONE deserves a chance to live, fight for there life, conquer a disease, with there strength, not there wallet.

All in all, does it suck? Yes. Could it be worse? Yes. I'm glad we at least have places we can go for minimal treatment. As we all know, some people in some places do not even have that.

Regards,

Steven

At point of use it costs nothing.

Because its cost is borne by the rest of the society in the form of higher taxes and lower economic potential.

Btw, what does this topic have anything to do with aviation?

A very interesting discussion. In Canada, in any of the scenarios mentioned, the total cost of the hospitalization, recovery, what-have-you to the patient would be ... $0. No deductibles, either.

In British Columbia, a family of four pays Medical Service Plan (BC healthcare) premiums of $128 per month--assuming one's employer doesn't pay that directly as a form of benefit (mine does, actually).

Certainly, Canada doesn't have a perfect healthcare system. Our taxes are relatively high, but no one in Canada ever goes into bankruptcy due to medical expenses. No one.

Some hospitals have helipads? :P

Most Canadians are willing to bear the cost of our healthcare system, our higher taxes, and our lower economic potential (although I question whether that is truly so when one considers the loss of economic potential of those who have little to no access to healthcare in the US) if it means a kinder, gentler, more equitable society, one that cares for its sick.

The first bit is true, the second is totally subjective and a very sweeping statement. Do you object to paying slightly higher taxes (in fact I think we established there's about a knats whisker difference in take home pay compared to gross pay between the UK and the US) to enable those that can't afford basic healthcare needs to have them?

Yet the Republicans say that goverment healthcare is communist, wonder whos pocket their hands are in my guess is hospitals and insurance companys!

Hangar Chat ('and any other topics not covered in other forums')? If you're not interested then don't open the topic.

As for what this discussion has to do with aviation, well ... it doesn't have to. The Hangar Chat forum is "for the discussion of real world aviation topics and any other topics not covered in other forums [emphasis mine]."

In reality, the only two subjects not allowed in "Hangar Chat" are:

  • politics
  • religion

To add a little more to how things work in the UK - it seems that our Air Ambulances are almost entirely charity funded (I think the London Air Ambulance gets some state money but not much).

Well I didn't start this as a political thread so hopefully it won't turn out that way...
