TO/GA switches on Boeing aircraft

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, this is just a quick question

I just want to know which button is pressed for TO/GA on Boeing aircraft (specifically the 737 and 747 that I own from PMDG) because on the PMDG 737NGX and 747X you just press the area in the panel for it, but Ive heard its located somewhere on the throttles. Are there any diagrams to show "exactly" where it is?

One other thing is in the real world how is the auto throttle disconnected? Ive noticed in some youtube videos that they don`t use the switch on the panel but press something else that I can`t see.

And most importantly, can I do what they do in the real world with my PMDG? ;)

Thanks

Ctrl + Shift + G - Works like a charm every time. I found it easier than pressing TOGA on the MCP & Throttle. Or you can map a button on your joystick for it to make it even easier!

Thanks for your reply however I was asking a question about it in REAL LIFE, not FS, I can work it fine in FS ;)

I don't think you're allowed to post pics from Airliners.net, but I will give a link : (apparently we can't even link to Airliners.net)

Look below the handles, you'll see a black button on both sides, that's the TOGA button. You'll notice that the throttles say A/T Disengage. There's a little button on both sides that you push with your thumb.

Just go on the website, search under 737 - Flight Decks - and enter throttle as the keyword.

I should learn to read all of peoples posts and importantly, read it properly ha :P

I think most Boeing aircraft's TO/GA switches are on the throttles along with a disconnect. The B757/B767 you actually press the "N1" button on the MCP. There's a separate button for "GA" on the middle panels.

Here is as good a picture as you'll find: (Note: this picture is from a classic, but the throttle is the same on the NG)

As the others said, the black button where your index or middle finger would rest is the TOGA, the one by your thumb is the disconnect.

738 has a button on the left side of the yoke ;)

I also need to read before posting... :( If you ever wonder where the A/P disengage is, I am your man :)

As for the 747, the TOGA switches are those 2 black triggers on the front of the #3 and #4 throttles, and the A/T disconnect are the 2 black triggers on the back of #1 and #4 throttles

The yoke button is an A/P DISCO and each yoke has one on it's outer side. It has nothing to do with A/T.

There's a seperate TOGA as well as a seperate A/T DISCO p/b on each throttle lever, they are symmetric.

Thanks for the reply everyone :D Ive tested it out on the 737 and works like a beauty XD its just hard to reach the TO/GA switch on the 737 so I guess Ill stick to the panel until I fly real 737s... at least its a good reference ;) ;) As for the 747 I have been lazy so haven`t set up the FMC and all to test it out yet but just to check with one of the replies was it engine number 2 and 3 black switches for the TO/GA and 1, 4 for the disconnect or were the orders wrong?

You should probably neither type axxxxxxxs.net, nor should you even think/speak of it.

Back to the subject at hand... it is remarkable how "stuck in the 50's and 60's" some of Beoing's technology is and, at the same time, how cutting edge they are. I realize that the 737 has common pedigree, in some aspects, with the 707 and 727, but that is exactly my point. The 737 still carries that legacy. One look at the throttle quadrant makes this legacy obvious.

That is correct.

I'd rather the 737 throttle quadrant than the A320 one. At least it moves, and you can disconnect autothrottle and just by leaving the throttle handles where they are, maintain the same N1 value/power. A320 you have to pull out of CLB, set the throttle position, then press ATHR on the Panel.

In general with Boeing, your TOGA buttons fall under your index/middle finger as you hold the thrust levers, and the Autothrottle Disconnect will fall under your Thumb.

Press once to disconnect, Press again to stop the disconnect alarm/clear the amber.

Actually with airbus you can disconnect the athr with the instinctive disconnect buttons, then move the thrust levers to the position, the engine should still remain at the power setting they were when it was disconnected until the thrust lever position corresponds to the thrust setting of the engine. If i understand it correctly, or does that only work when you have a thrust lock condition.
