Waiting for 10.20... dropping OSM...

Featured Replies

I am holding my breath for what 10.20 and the following versions will bring, but for the time beingI am dropping the use of OSM scenery. I will leave the objects folder in the custom secenery, for airports I might download and install here and there, but the overall scenery I had for most areas of Europe, Americas and Asia I will remove.

Most of the time I am noticing quite a bit of an impact from using the OSM scenery objects. I really think that LR should instead provide more extensive library of autogen objects, and better landcover/landclass for the Global scenery areas.

One of the main reasons for my decision is how good I found today the autogen cities around East USA. New York was filled with buildings of various types. I would be perfectly satisfied with such coverage for my home town, etc... and, at max scenery settings the impact in fps was almost none, contrarily to what happens when I arrive, for instance, London or Moscow with autogen buildings.

Now... I wasn't aware that OSM also existed for the MSFS world ... I hear it is also heavy on the fps...

It's nice to be able to land the hlicopters on the roof tops of OSM obj buildings, but I can perfectly live without this in favour of smoothness...

Exactly what I said at launch of XP10. Needs more buildings and building zone classification system that can be tweaked and edited and filled with a building type. This area is residential, fill with houses, residential apartment/condos fill with non-commercial multistory buildings, commercial district fill with high-rise buildings...it would still place the buildings with the same scheme as it currently does by aligning the buildings with the roads, but instead would choose what type of building to place based on the zone it falls into. Maybe even put a max building height in a qualifier to restrict the building sizes in the landing zones of runways to avoid those pesky 16 story high-rises on short final.

Hey jcomm, just sent you a PM to see how I could get your copy of X-plane and addons. Wont ask why you're giving up on it after being such a supporter.

I am, very, unfortunately... Sometimes we have to make choices... X-Plane10 is, nonetheless, a great simulation platform.

jcomm, keep your copy, you will come back to it eventually, guaranteed. This happen to me too, went back and forth between xp9 and fsx, eventually got tired of switching and finally decided to keep one. So I took FSX off my hard drive and got XPX. Haven't looked back since.

Even thought there are times I hate XPX, I just get a hold of myself and stick to it. I know this process of beta is going to take a while, but I think that at the end it will be worth it and less expensive, that's for sure. LOL

You say "don't ask", however I'll still have to ask... Why this all of a sudden?

i'm with jcomm on this, xp10 is fun but it's missing so many features, I have many other sims and games that are taking me away from flight sims. I bought Railworks Train Sim 2013, European Truck Simulator 2 which blows away xp10 and fsx in the graphics dept, Aerosoft's Subway Sims, plus so many others. Even the xp10 forum on avsim is slowly dying.

I have to say I was quite shocked to see this, too. I'm with Swe_Richard on this. You say "Don't ask", but as you have been probably the most ardent XP supporter here, seeing this turn begs the question. As for myself, I've been extremely busy with work lately and haven't had time to fly. I'm also mulling a major hardware upgrade. My interest and enthusiasm for flight simming in general and X-Plane in particular hasn't died, however. Just taking a bit of a break during this lull before the 10.20 beta round.

Can you at least give us a hint, jcomm?

Yes, I have also noticed that the xpx forum is almost dead. It is troubling. Is everyone busy doing other things or have everyone left? It feels dead in the water now, I hope I'm wrong.

It will get busier again, when 10.20 is released.

(but I would also like to know jcomm's reasoning. Please jcomm, give us a hint!)

Just sold my copy...

I will ellaborate more on my decision using PM.

Anyway, X-Plane10 is, IMHO, a great simulation platform. It all depends on our wants, what we find more important, and what we really couldn't care less to see implemented when other aspects were so much more important.

For other users what they want is completely different from what I want, and, as a whole, X-Plane10 is, I repeat, a great simulation platform, specially with a future I will certainly hope to be very bright :-)

I may join back by v12 (I usually skip one version each time... I skipped v9...)
