64bit version = better performance (proof shot...)

Depends. If you use OSM and Photosceneries and/or big Sceneries 6 GB will be very small. In Fact I just added another 12 GB after I noticed that my computer ran out of RAM around EHAM together with OSM and the Boeing 777.

Whoa... That's crazy. Well.. Ram isn't all that expensive nowadays, is it?

No, iut is extremly cheap. It is so cheap that I bought 16 GB since it was 5 Euro cheaper than 12 GB...

And the biggest surprise was: Even 10.11 was faster since Windows used the available RAM as a cache.

And now with 10.20 I can finally use EHAM as a normal airport without any problems.

Better fps would be a total irrelevance for me, since

(1) Track IR stops tracking after a few seconds,

(2) I have no sound, and

(3) I have a continuously flashing message in the top right corner of the screen announcing "disk data saving to disk".

(4) In addition, the 32-bit version still leaves a copy of X-Plane running after I've quit (as version 10.11 did). This is particularly irritating if I'm trying to sort out a problem that requires me to quit and then restart, since X-Plane refuses to restart (because there's acopy already running). Then when I clear the running copy and restart, it asks me if I want to use default rendering or use my old rendering options; I go for my old rendering options, and it promptly restarts in windowed mode, which is just adding insult to injury.

The only plus that I can see so far is that loading appears to be much faster than in previous versions.

The only problem I have had is the TrackIR problem, which after reading http://developer.x-plane.com/ , I find is a known problem. I feel better knowing this and will wait until I see that this problem has been corrected as I have become (gasp) almost dependent on this great piece of equipment.

Why not try Facetracknoir works quite well, but needs some tuning.

A clean re-install and update restored the sound, and the flashing message disappeared when I turned off the fps display, so the only thing now stopping me from using this version is the TrackIR problem, which is expected to be fixed shortly. What I've seen so far with the 64-bit version doesn't suggest any significant fps change either upwards or downwards, but that's OK, since I was quite happy with the fps in version 10.11.

Well, appart from the windows spinning ball cursor bug, and since I do not have TrackIR, I had no problems. Of course the Carenados are not working correctly. As a matter of fact only the Sundowner works flawlessly.

I also noticed better performance now with HDR on.

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

just fired it up on Linux and Win8 to test the broken shadows on Linux. Needs more testing but I believe it was pretty much faster on 64bit Linux than elsewhere.

I

think HDR still does not bring enough to the table to justify the loss of frames, though. But then, I have never been a fan of deferred rendering AA, or the framerate costs of attempting to correct for the jaggies it displays.

It depends on the weather and your Hardware. At nigtht HDR is simply a necessity, IMHO!

WIth 10.20 the new 2xSSAA + FXAA is IMHO an extremly good improvement. 4xSSAA + FXAA doesn't really bring a big improvement, while 8xSSAA + FXAA depends extremly on the Hardware.

I use to think HDR was a must at night as well but for some reason the differance does not seem to be as large in this release.

I also noticed moving trains were back and was surprised. For some reason I thought they had been gone for a while.

PS: Would X-Plane be able to make full use of the above link?

Wow, 64bits so smooth on my setup. More steady framerate. Great improvement over 32.

Thanks LR

Of course the Carenados are not working correctly.

That's a shame. The Carenado 152 is my favorite airplane. Hopefully the long-promised Carenado XP10 updates will be released soon (and hopefully as a free patch/upgrade).
