Orbx England What Do You Think?

Featured Replies

Well I think some people's expectations have run a bit unrealistically high to be honest.

I'm in the North East of England, so I am not judging areas in the South and particularly London, with pin point accuracy (for a £26 product covering an area as large as this).

I think it looks absolutely fantastic! ........... a MASSIVE upgrade on default FSX England, and a HUGE upgrade even, on UTX/GEX England (that I had been flying with).

I also prefer it to the Horizon VFR scenery that I also have.

It looks convincingly England-like, has great frames, and is a beautiful match with OPUS weather, giving a really real feeling England, that I'd dreamed of and hoped for.

Beautiful job. Great interaction with my UK2000 Xtreme Airports too.

I mainly fly National and Regional flights, IFR, so maybe that's why the fact that every single VRP is not placed, does not upset me.

Along with OPUS, the NGX, and the RA Turbine Duke, it's the best thing I've bought for FSX. Period.

The only negative I would add, is that downloading this product (Flightsimstore.com) was a nightmare. Never had issues with other FTX packs before, but this kept completely stalling (I'm not talking about it running slow but stopping completely), and it took me around 8 attempts (from all of the servers), and 5-6 hours to actually download the product.

To those who are joining in the chorus of "some folks expectations are unrealistically high" I'd point out that this is nothing more than an assumption on your part? Wait until some specifics have been posted.

Nobody has posted anything I've read that has suggested that and many people posting here have nearly ALL that FTX has produced. In other words they're an "informed" audience.

No one has trashed this package. Even those of us who are initially disappointed with some aspects of it see much in it that is good or very good. No one developer or even half a dozen developers can equal the local knowledge and expertise of such a densely populated area and the teams willingness to take on any suggestions has to be as positive as anyone could be. :good:

Let's help them with the tweaking and concentrate on that rather than criticising the critics? There have already been some really useful bits of critical feedback and this sort of stuff has been patched in other FTX areas and they're all the better for it.

No names no pack drill, we all know who they are, there are some developers who seem to ignore any feedback however constructive it is so surely we should embrace a dialogue with any developer who's keen to get feedback? That means a bit of work on our part too.

I'm one of those "Orbx has a new area out? Where's my VISA?"-.guys. Haven't even flown it yet. I'm sure it'll be good, but I'm always a bit on edge that perhaps they've lost it, rushed it or gotten sloppy. It's hard to top their own achievements every time. I don't envy them those expectations. Somehow they've always pulled it off, looking at their products only. Customer relations and forum idiocy aside.

Hi all. Thanks for your time and effort to discuss issues and gripes that you may or may not have with EU ENG. Please Please Please, if there is something you feel is "just not right" with "your" Areas i would urge you to post a screenie of so called issue or missing town, we are working so hard to improve what we have created so far. There WILL be a patch (Cant give timeframe on that sorry) ((but it is being worked on as we speak) and the more feedback with screenshots, the more we can try to make it even better for you. I only found this post by scanning the net for issues not being posted on the Orbx forums. We Know how much it means to you to have an enjoyable and exciting experience whilst flying, I do too. I cant promise every issue will be resolved, but i can promise that we are working our socks off, and will continue to do so to try and get things as best and accurate as we can within the limitations of FSX.

Keep smiling, keep flying and keep us informed of things you would like to see. We do listen ;)

Keith you need to ask the admins on this forum to give you 'Developer' status.

Most of us have strayed away from the orbx official forums because of their authoritarian policies there...

Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

I'm very surprised about Orbx rushing a product out like that, it's not like them at all.

I suspect that now that they not having "sales" anymore that was another way to boost the cashflow..! Sell now fix later..!

The product was released when..... yersterday.... and there is already a patch being worked on??? When did you guys found out that something was not right and had to be worked on? Now tell everybody here that this product was not rushed out the door.....

C'mon Keith, tell me that you did not know the unofficial Orbx's forum at Avsim existed..... :Alien:

I did not want to be the first one to say so here......

Is there any demo of the FTX england ?

Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

Well rather than chew over old wounds lets make this avenue of communication work?

Lets start with some easy fixes

Firstly in London Hyde Park looks like a a dense jungle? Needs trees removing.

Down In Dorset

These are the cliffs between Swanage and Studland. Part of the Jurrasic Coast. They should be white like the more famous ones at Dover Also there are some rocks at the headland where Studland bay ends known as Old harry and his wives. These are actually clearly visible from miles around and can certainly be seen from the air.

Whilst we're on about landmark rocks the Needles on the isle of Wight are missing too although the lightouse at the end is modelled.

Whilst I appreciate this is not photoreal scenery the vert obviously wrong landclass around the baloon at Bournemouth Centre could be better represented by some higher rise buildings and better placed greenery for the winter gardens?

Some 3D piers would make the coasts look more convincing too? Not suggesting scale models of all the UK's piers (although THERE'S a project we'd all love?) but at least a few different "generic structures" to represent different sizes and lengths?

Think I've busted the pic llimit for this post so I'll post more in another one.

Geoff

PS Kevin and Mods? Would it help to start a seperate thread just for constructive suggestions so they don't get lost in the debate?

Geoff, if you don't mind me asking, wouldn't Orbx's forum be the ultimate best place to have constructive suggestions posted at, I don't think they would mind that over there would they?

I am beginning to wonder what annoys me more: the behaviour of Orbx on its own forums or the never ending stream of crap about Orbx here... Since I don't visit the Orbx forum anymore (only had a look at the England previews recently), I think the latter is annoying me more by now. Give it a rest, I'd say... Enjoy what Orbx is selling or don't but cut the crap about the company. It's getting very old...

In the meantime I am having a blast flying with VOR around England. Loving it!

A few more

Missing Landmarks

Corfe Castle - Sitting as it does on the hill between the the main purneck hill ranges this is another landmark clearly visible from the air

http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/apmw/09jul10/wareswan/apmw040.jpg

Thames barrier - well just not there although there are some marks in the water where it should be.

http://www.webbaviation.co.uk/gallery/d/34722-1/ThamesBarrierAerial-ca32752a.jpg

Dorset Again and Sandbanks - missing houses and a ferry. The bog standard FTX ferry fits in well here too.

Whilst we're around Poole the Cross channel Ferry and Commercial Harbour opposite Poole Quay is shown as a small boat marina. The Ferry's include large cross channel vessels and high speed cross channel Catamarans

Back in London the buildings either side of the Thames at Tower Bridge are missing or too small. I know these are only some of the buildings that aren't there but they do give the Tower, Tower Bridge and the pool of London a more convincing feel.

Hope that's useful and that anything that technically can't be fixed we'll have to live without.

Lastly

One wrong placement that's a simple fix. The Woolwich Ferry. One is sailing upstream towards London and this would look better either just leaving one of the loading piers or moored to it. The ferry that's already at the pier should be on the end of the L. Google maps shows this. The models themselves work pretty well as the Woolwich Ferry.

Cheers Geoff

Aaaaaah, will I live long enough to see scenery like THAT in FSX (or another sim)? Whenever you look at real pictures, FSX suddenly looks like er... well, let me not use that word for a third time this afternoon... ^_^ Hm, I don't think I will ever see something like this on my PC... What a shame...

I don't know about you guys, but buying England was very very good for me. I just took a flight on Vatsim from Manchester to Gatwick (something I wouldn't usually ever consider doing with the default scenery, and with my not knowing the area,) to look around at the scenery and I was amazed. England actually feels alive now, I get the sense that I'm flying over cities that I want to visit rather than some unknown city that I don't care about. I was also amazed at the frame rates that I was getting, coming into London (which at dusk should give me a pretty big frame hit) it could not be smoother, and I was very happy with it. Gatwick also looks amazing, I have the UK2000 demo for it, but I'd really just rather leave the OrbX one as the default airport, as it is a lot smoother on frames, and looks very very nice.

I also appreciate the photoscenery part of it, which makes flying over it at the high altitude levels something to marvel at. I was thinking about buying GEX/UTX for europe to get me to start wanting to fly around the UK and the area, but I'm glad I held off, as the many things that I get for a measly 45 dollars does not compare to the several hundred dollars that I would have had to spend to get comparable products to enhance the area.

You can't expect to get 100% of the things to the tee in an area. It's a simulator, not real life. I'm sure even in PNW/NZNI/NZSI there are always going to be some people that will yell out "HEY! This is my home city, I know how everything should look like, and it was not depicted 100% correct!" But I look at it as a win every time that you purchase something, install it, and enhance your experience flying with it. It's unrealistic to expect things inside a simulator to match the real world 100%. But this is only my opinion. For now, I'll be flying happily wandering around England!

Jeroen, you have to acknowledge that the latter can't exist without the former.

You are posting here because you can say what ever you want, even if you think some post are getting old, something you can't do at Orbx,
