Is it just me, or...?

I was (and still I am) a proper freak for an ultimate simulation in FSX, in this case of an aircraft systems, procedures, checklists, everything. There is no better feel when you start with cold & dark state 10-12 minutes before pushback, preparing the plane, activating all the systems, flight plan, autopilot...

But, one huge but, all that comes with a cost - they are all a huge perfomance killers! I bought PMDG 737NGX and Aerosoft Airbus X (and probably Extended), and I must say when FPS drops to 14-18 on final with PMDG and FSX starts to stutter badly, all that fantastic feeling of an ultimate sim fades away.

So, few days ago I bought Just Flight's A320 Jetliner, an F-Lite plane (slightly detailed that default A321) and I must say it is a complete new dimension of enjoyment when FPS is around 25 without stutters, smooth! And all of that on final in front of EDDM with 18% MyTraffic X (solid packed airport). Clearly I became a FPS b*tch! I traded all fancy and ultimate sim features from PMDG and Airbus X for a smooth flight. I admit, lack of proper procedures in the cockpit is a new dimension to get used to, but when you get very smooth flight from start to the end is priceless.

My system is not that bad ([email protected], gtx 560 OC), and I keep the settings on max (except autogen which is on dense), simply because I don't get much better FPS with all medium settings, not worth it.

Oh yes, one thing also regarding PMDG for example, learning curve is awful, and I don't have time to learn and practice for 10 times procedures and stuff, I just want to use my 2 hours of free time for FSX to fly the route with FSpassengers and enjoy it.

Anyone else fallen to the dark side, or is it just me? :)

And I must ask does anyone know for any good and DETAILED systems jetliner (up to 150 pax, like a320) which is FPS friendly? Airbus X is ok whn you edit some displays frequency in xml files, but still it can drop the FSX on knees.

I'm not so demanding, the most important part is proper activation of systems from cold & dark, not just battery on and apu on like in Just Flight's A320, so maybe you could help me?

cheers!

I got a brand new comp just to play the NGX with good fps, I totally know what you mean.

Nice, NGX with good FPS, heaven. :)

By the way, what CPU is the minimum for breaking the 25fps barrier with the NGX on finals?

I certainly enjoy some of the more simplistic aircraft for this same reason. Sometimes the immersion that a complicated aircraft can provide is killed by the performance that can go with it. Depends on where you are flying too.

FSX is an enigma like that. I have the pretty much the same PC specs with a 27" monitor and 8 gigs of ram. I get good fluid frame rates with the PMDG NGX in and out of airports from Aerosoft and Flytampa. I would spend another $50 if I were you and jump up to 8 gigs of ram if you can.

The OP's post is full of contradictions. He says he's a sim freak but mentions the Aerosoft Airbus? Then complains that proper simulation takes too long? None of this makes sense.

Why not try the QW 757 as a compromise? I get good frames and its pretty "simplified" but way better than default.

I'm really not going compromise realism. I can fly default fsx planes at really high frames but it doesn't do much for my own satisfaction. To each their own.

Thinking the same thing you said, lol. Wants extreme realism but doesn't want to read or learn how to operate the plane properly.

How do you play the NGX? I know how to fly it but no sure about "playing" it, lol.

It's the autogen setting of normal or below.

I do what I enjoy most. It's my hobby, after all....

Yes, my post is full of contradictions, sadly. First of all, I studied NGX and Airbus X long enough to the point when I can fly the routes with full procedures, checklists and so on. Now I have a kid and a job. and I really don't have enough time to examine systems & procedures in a new plane, and all of that with low FPS.

And what's wrong with Airbus X? Fantastic plane! I don't know for more complex A320 in FSX, so it's sort of an ultimate sim for me. Not good as NGX but fps is better, enough for me.

Last night I had a amazingly smooth flight in JF A320 F-Lite from Aerosoft's EDDM to LEPA, 30fps on final with bunch of planes on apron, dense autogen. It is really hard to forget that and back to NGX slideshow. :)

All my life I was a simfreak, searching for an ultimate realism in FSX, and decision to buy Just Flight's A320 is not an easy one. Worst of all I started checking default FSX airliners with an updated custom cockpits, which is a scenario that could happen only in an emergency like this one is. And I updated my CPU and GPU 10 months ago, was @ 2.8ghz and 320mb gpu, imagine NGX with that.

You're so right. The FSX expeience is full of contradictions. You can't have the cake and eat it too. I only fly aircraft that are allowed for single pilot operation in the real world, so the most complex I fly is the King Air. But realism usually cost frames, especially for fast moving aircraft it can be a pain. The Turbine Duke is not so great over very dense scenery for instance.

It takes a lot of time to fly things as real as it gets. I have original POHs for all the aircraft I fly, but instead of fooling myself into thinking that I can learn everything about the aircraft before I start using it, I focus on certain aspects and learn stuff in stages. Once you've gotten to know an aircraft of a certain type pretty well, the learning curve tends to level out for the next few.
