November 27, 201213 yr Where I am now, things move so fast, and are so many that I don't even know where they came from :-))) But while I try to find where they are, I have a great time! Go figure... Ah! And, it's also possible in X-Plane10, I believe, so, when it settles into a more stable release I will remind Austin of those possibilities... Sorry guys, I have to go trainning and reading the dense manuals.... My instructor is with me tonight on a trainning flight, and the guys at the tower also don't like mistakes .... November 27, 201213 yr very true, this week i went back to fsx and all my payware and it feels so alive compared to xp10. xp10 is going into the recycle bin until Austin completes it. With over $1,000 in payware any sim will look good. (Got this from your "My Simulator" specs) I for one did not spend any $$ on scenery and only a few $$ in Carenados aircraft. Never cared to spend on scenery for the sole reason that FSX had and still has performance issues, (at least with my not so fast computer specs). You have to do all of this (http://www.simforums...220.html#198220) just get descent performance. On the other hand with my current specs I can crank up XPX setting almost to the max with outstanding results, even with the last update that included lots of autogen art, I still get very good fps. It took me less than an hour to get XPX configured. As of today, with the latest update, if you compare FSX (- $1,000 of course) and XPX out of the box, XPX blows fsx away. November 27, 201213 yr As of today, with the latest update, if you compare FSX (- $1,000 of course) and XPX out of the box, XPX blows fsx away. Nope..............only takes thousand$ for a CPU to operate either sim, effectively. As one who has simmed since the beginning. And one who has built & flew real airplanes; and as one who is probably now going to have to be content with desktop simming (medical reasons)......................I totally disagree! XPX doesn't get close to blowing FSX out of the water; or years ahead, or anything like that. In reality, some exceptional addons are still being developed for FSX everyday. In my opinion, I'd be foolish to give up FSX.............unless of course I just want to give up any thoughts of "flight".....period. Instead of all this "years ahead, blows away" malarkey................just be happy to use both sims, and check out what future offerings have to offer. L.Adamson
November 27, 201213 yr only takes thousand$ for a CPU to operate either sim, effectively Wrong!!! took me $80 for an upgrade (from an Athlon 64 X2 to a Phenom II X4) with the same 800mhz mem and the same GTX 560 ti to make XPX quie enjoyable. This same setup, FSX still has a lot of blurries and micro stutters. This only means that FSX was never optimized. I for one was foolish enough to do just that, but you know what, I don't regret it at all, in fact is saved me close to $1000 in upgrades, so in my case foolish or not, it saved me some $$, I can put that into my daughter's college tuition. November 27, 201213 yr X-Plane is the way forward. Development is continuing and you certainly cannot blame Laminar for third party dev's shortsightedness. After all, Microsoft had very little to do with FSX's success.

November 28, 201213 yr xp10 is still in beta! beta=not finished :( X-Plane 10.11 (32-bit) = finished stable release X-Plane 10.20 (32-bit or 64-bit) = beta (right now beta 5), not finished Don't believe the marketing by a big company when they talk about a "SP2" or "Gold" edition. It doesn't mean it's finished, especially when 6 years after the release, you need to buy high end hardware, edit cfg files with a text editor because they didn't want to finish their user interface, and when you need to replace dlls if you want to reach your destination airfield without a CTD. Famous programming quote: "The software isn’t finished until the last user is dead." November 28, 201213 yr Author Some very interesting opinions, on balance I think I may buy the full version but just before I do I have a couple of issues which may or may not be 'features' of the demo version. Firstly I have set up my Metalstrike Pro joystick and calibrated it but find that with the yaw control selected my aircraft, no matter whether it is a Cessna or a B52, veer left on the runway and whilst in flight unless I move the yaw stick to the far right - believe me I have tried every combination I can think of but the only way I can stop it is to put 'none' in the joystick yaw selecter. Even then though they still veer to the left a lot of the time. Secondly the throttle control, which works on the joystick appears OK in that revs show max on their displays when I push it right forward but when I release the brakes the aircraft hardly moves forward and accelerates so slowly it hasn't enough speed to lift offf at the other end of the runway. In the calibration of the joystick when there is a full green bar the throttle control is fully closed but I have tried it the opposite way as well. And thirdly, and specifically to the Cessna 172, the auto pilot seems to have no control when heading and altitude hold are selected; they are correctly lit up in the panel with the autopilot switched on but the aircraft appears to take no heed of either setting. I haven't tried autopilot on any other aircraft as I don't know how any of them work!! As I said before, are these 'features' of the demo version or am I doing something so totally wrong.

Interesting thread indeed! I've spent a ton of time and money purchasing "upgrades" to the FSX experience, like most everyone else that has stuck with that sim for a long time. About two months ago, I had a hard-drive failure (I do keep various back ups including a disk image), but I had a Raid set-up with an SSD...and I wanted to just move to a standard 1-drive system. The point? I couldn't just use my disk image for a back up, so I would have to re-install programs--including FSX and X-Plane 10. Well, the backup to XPX took about 12 minutes--just copy the folder from my external back up, update a few data files from Carbonite...bingo, I was flying again. Then I thought about the weeks it would take to re-build FSX and all the add ons. And I just couldn't bring myself to do it. So, I've been flying exclusively in XP-10 for two months, and that forced me into looking into this site for tips, scenery, aircraft etc, and it forced me to start evaluating and buying payware for XP-10. Man, am I a happy camper! Last week, for the first time in six years, I flew a great IFR flight with VATSIM, in low ceiling and visibility, and the experience in the freeware Project-737 was incredible! Smooth instrumentation and fluid feel in the air, great (but no over-done) turbulence and wind effects on final, super frame-rates and a nice "pop-out" from actual 3-D clouds to a wonderful XP rendition of KBOS (freeware). My palms were sweaty, and it was a total blast! While I miss some of the "airport candy" (moving jetways, ground crews, etc), I'm learning to really enjoy the actual flying in X-Plane much more...and I haven't even begun to wax on about how wonderful it is to fly on clear nights in X Plane! Long live FSX...but X-Plane is the King for me now! Bill KGYH

Did you ever fly the PMDG NGX when you had FSX installed? I've tried the x737 myself on XPX including the xFMC mod that you can purchase and still found that it was nothing compared to the NGX on FSX. I just can't get into 2D cockpit and panels since shiny VC's is all I've ever known. The 777 Worldliner Pro for me is the best thing available on XPX at the moment. Michael R

Certainly the PMDG 737 is excellent but...The X737 is freeware! What does the PMDG sell for? Yup, about as much as XPX does! The PMDG 737 was the last addon for FSX i bought. You're way of thinking is keeping us from finding the forest, because the trees are blocking the view! Do you really expect us to live with FSX for the rest of our lives?

November 29, 201213 yr The X737 is freeware! What does the PMDG sell for? Yup, about as much as XPX does! Yeah guess you can't really compare payware and freeware. Maybe I was expecting a bit much from the x737. Do you really expect us to live with FSX for the rest of our lives? No but I have XPX and believe that I've given it a fair shake, my conclusion is that I'm not yet ready to make the full switch. I'd prefer to wait until more 3PD's get on board with more complex aircraft available. I'm really interested to see how the IXEG 737 CL will go. Michael R
