A2A did it again...

Featured Replies

From time to time I invest on a good FSX add-on. On my return to this sim, which I must confess I seldom use now that I am becoming a DCS addict, I decide to buy a RealAir (the Duke), and now the A2A Civil p-51.

I am writing this post to express how deeply satisfied with this aircraft I am feeling. Of course I bought it in the first place because it was an A2A Accusim add-on, one of those products that still makes FSX the most complete and fully featured simulation platform (and yes, I am in the X-Plane team too...), but also because since I find DCS's p-51 the greatest prop sim I have ever used with it's p-51 military version, I was willing to find the modelling differences...

Well, all I can say is that A2A has nailed all of the details I could think of. I believe their products are the only that, for instance, are capable of modelling the "negative" torque from a windmilling prop, when the airflow leads, and the torque forces get an opposed moment and start a right roll and yaw tendency. These is just a detail, I know, but things like the pitch stability, the stall characteristics and even the modelling of compressibility effects are unique to A2A's products, I believe.

Also, their interface is great, and the menus that are so easy and handy to use are all there making your experience even better (sometimes I regret not having those in the DCS p-51 :-/ )

A great add-on, and for those who prefer the civil version (like me) it's a must have!

I've got to get a stick so I can pick up a few of these old birds. I've been looking at the B-17 as well. Love that plane to death.

Realistic yet fps friendly, can't expect more..

Get the B-17 with Accu-sim ... be warned ... its so immersive you'll want to fly it all the time, also do a search for 91st bombardment group, they re-create B-17 missions real time in multiplayer, im a member but not done a mission yet im still planning a 4000 mile 'initiation flight' from Boeing Field to Bassingborne (home of Memphis Belle) ... guess my Christmas will be spent in the B-17!!!

Enjoy

Well you made up my mind will grab it.

Yes, it is in fact a great simulation, inside what I end up having to consider still the best overall simulation platform ever developed... On my return to FSX Gold I reinstalled my RealAir stuff, AS2012, and now this A2A P-51 Civil.

It's true I am spending a lot of time in the immersive and great DCS World, flying the military p-51 in there, but I can't avoid using this unique p-51 in FSX for short / medium distance IFR flights, specially coupled with the realistc weather provided by AS2012.

The menus are straightforward, and very helpful. It's great to start the plane, manage the many intricacies of it's correct operation, from taxi (with a perfectly modelled tail wheel including free castoring and limited operations depending on the stick position. Everything is exactly as the real thing (from the manuals of the real thing.... because as you already know, in RL I only fly gliders...). Setting the parking brake as per the correct procedure is great, starting the engine, letting it warm up, and specially taking care of what can happen on cold and moist days... Well, INCREDIBLY REALISTIC!

Not to be meant offensive, as I find your sim testing and reporting interesting to read. But.. jcomm, if you ever settle on a single sim, let me know. :P

By the way, I share your awe on the A2A. I don't have the civil version, but the military one is a lovely and demanding sim plane. And since the A2A folks keep pushing the envelope with every Core update, it never grows old.

And regarding your extensive and detailed sim testing, why not start something like a blog? Since you really care for the details and also question them, the insights of yours expand way beyond a simple first look. Just a thought.

Well, tell no one about it, but I think I might have finally ended this cycle, since I started early this year with MS FLIGHT and transited from FSX Gold to X-plane10, then .... well... you know :-)

I am using a sim that has basically brought me the same sensations MS FLIGHT did :-). I have a PC with it, and only it, while on another one I have X-Plane10 for testing the successive releases, and FSX Gold, mainly because I am participating as a beta tester on a very interesting project :-)

But! The sim I am using now the most, a flightsim of course, is being so immersive that most of my time is spent either on it or collecting interesting material to help me with the aircraft model I bought... I think I really settled on that one, but time will say....

Meanwhile, X-Plane10 continues converging to something really good I hope the later version 10 releases will bring, FSX continues to mantain its statute of still being, IMHO, the best overall civillian flight simulation platform and collecting new and very good / challenging add-ons, and that other sim is giving me a hell of a good time :-)

I am still loving the heck out of their Cub!

As said, it was an interesting read all the time, seeing you going through the forum sections, sometimes leading a few others. B)

Keep up that informative, open and constructive attitude. On some of your detailed posts, I actually learned about an effect being there. Not having seen it for months.

We all know that the best sim will always be the one giving the user the most fun or, sometimes, just the lowest amount of  . I too would say that FSX may fulfil that role the best, or the worst. Depends.

In addition to their superb quality, the support is just as superb. If you DO have a problem or a question, you will get a quick answer. I was in love with their military P-51 but as I like flying IMC, my new favorite is the civilian version. I shot an approach to minimums at KMSO and I had goose bumps when I finally shut down. I don't have the words to express exactly how much I believe the A2A products should be in everyone's fleet!

Just how frame friendly, on par with the Realair Duke T?

Well, at least the military one is better on the fps than the Duke, Howard. Maybe the civilian one differs due to the GPS, but not much I guess.

That's interesting CoolP, she certainly looks like one great bit of kit. I don't fly military planes, for some reason they just don't float my boat, but this bird, wow, she's got the best of both world's.
