December 22, 201213 yr I had freezes after a few minutes with the betas but had an error free flight (20 minutes) with out a hitch using the WHQLs, a very smooth flight as a matter of fact. My card is a Gigabyte 560Ti and yes, I fly using Dx10. I also has no problems with BF3 using the WHQLs, whereas the betas locked-up my system almost immediately. I'm not sure if they even did anything but what ever they did between Beta and WHQL, it worked. My $.02 jime James D. Edwards
December 23, 201213 yr Just to confirm I installed the 310.70 with no issues. Not sure if it actually did anything to help DX10 though. Same here, Mark, but she was also ok with the beta, too. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 23, 201213 yr I tried the 310.70 with FSX DX10 preview and it seems as good as it ever was (recently), but nothing to write home about. But why then am I posting this, you may ask: It's because in IL-2 1946 310.70 again reintroduces (306.xx did it too) an artifact on water when using SSAA which 301.42 fixed. But I gotta have SSAA in IL-2 when I fly with my online squad, so it's back to 301.42. Without SSAA IL-2 coastlines look shimmery like FSX without SSAA (but then again this is NOT an IL-2 forum, so forgive my indulgence here ). December 23, 201213 yr Author Just flying over the pacific ocean on my way from Anchorage to Ontario and I noticed quite a bit of shimmering on the water, not sure if its more than normal though. Probably a good time to review my Inspector settings to make sure I have the latest and greatest settings. Paul, can I safely assume these are in the document? have not looked at it for a while. December 23, 201213 yr Yes- I also added one with FXAA enabled: seems ok. I haven't seen anywhere in Inspector (except the FXAA option) to inject the "SSAA" - the added negative LOD adjustments for NVIDIA’s full-screen sparse grid supersampling mode which is supposed to improve image sharpness. There's a good number of changes in the doc, Mark, as Steve (and a couple of other smart guys) have added more goodies for us. As there are rain and aircraft lighting fixes coming from Steve, RNGR (?) and Matt Nischan - all impacting the same code, you will need to be vigilant upon your choice of code snippet to use. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 24, 201213 yr Author Paul, Before you posted I actually downloaded the document again and went through it once again. You are right, lots of new goodies in there. My CFG was basically ok, I ended up using the 8x Sparse grid version of Inspector settings and toned down the bloom a little bit. Went from 1.11 to 1.08 but honestly have no reference to know if that is moving it down 1% or 80%. Anyway, fired up FSX and it looked fantastic, no shimmering, very shiny metal on the NGX and excellent framerates and smoothness. Thanks again for your efforts. Mark. Mark CYYZ
December 24, 201213 yr Hi guys, I installed this same version (310.70) as a beta. Now that it is out as a WHQL, is there any difference if they didn't roll the number? --Don Don Polidori
December 24, 201213 yr Hey, Don - good to see you here, and trying out DX10! I would think something's different - they have different file sizes, so there has to be some change made. I'll do some reading...... __________________________ Excellent, Mark! Thank you. The lighting is a little complicated isn't it. I used Ranger's method, from his post here in the forum, rather than editing each aircraft's lights section. Smart guy. Of course - we're all pretty smart Right?!! We're the DX10 Pioneers! :drinks: i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 24, 201213 yr Author Paul, just a question on the bloom intensity. Does moving the number down decrease or increase the effect? After changing the number from 1.11 to 1.08 it seems like the sun reflecting off the plane is 100% brighter and intense, probably going to go back to 1.11. Mark CYYZ
December 24, 201213 yr I've just upgraded to a Gigabyte GTX650 card (ebuyer £118 - 2GB RAM and runs very cool) from my old GTX470 . Tried the 310.70 beta drivers but found the performance better with the 306.97's. I've locked the framerates at 30fps in Nvidia Inspector and DX10 performance is fantastic. Hardly a stutter in sight As an experiment I went back to try DX9 last night and the difference is very noticeable. Framerates were a little higher overall but there were more occasional stutters and I had those scary pauses switching between full screen and windowed mode - something which has totally disappeared using DX10.
January 7, 201313 yr I finf this topic in the Nvidia forums about microstutter and driver. May be real? every driver after 258.96 produces micro stutter while video playback. It doesn't matter what type of video content (SD, HD, interlaced, progressive) and it doesn't matter what type of video format (avi, mpeg, mkv ...) and it doesn't matter what video player and it doesn't matter what video renderer. 258.96 works and has no micro stutter issues BUT has problems with 3D. I've bought an NVIDIA GT240 and a Sony HX905 long time ago, also for 3D, but I cannot use 3D with the 258.96 driver because it does not work stable. Drivers after 258.96 work with 3D but has micro stutters all over the place. So what on earth is the problem? my system: - Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR rev1.0 Bios F11 - Intel Celeron E3300 2.5 GHz - C1/C2/C4/TM2/EIST and all the other "funny" things disabled! - Windows 7 Professional 32bit with SP1 - current DirectX (directx_Jun2010_redist.exe) - NVIDIA GT240 with driver v258.96 using any ATI HD card there are no micro stutter issues at all. using an NVIDIA GT9400 there are micro stutters with >258.96 using an NVIDIA GT220 there are micro stutters with >258.96 using an NVIDIA GT430 there are micro stutters with >258.96 I know NVIDIA had problems with it, the forum is full of such reports but I cannot find any solution beside using a different graphics card from a different company :(
January 7, 201313 yr For a issue totally unrelated to FSX I was urged to update to 310.70. I have (3) spare swap-in/swap-out hard drives (with Seagate's Diskwizard's clone/boot utility) so made a clone beforehand. I had absolutely no issues with 310.70 and it cured the FSX-unrelated issue. I guess I am fortunate with the ability to clone my primary drive, but just reporting no issues with my update. My system specs are available in the Avsim sidebar. January 7, 201313 yr Just an FYI, but you might not be aware - the 310.90 drivers have been out for a couple of days.. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
January 7, 201313 yr ....and the new NV driver 310.90 works fine for me. No visible discrepancy to the older one found so far.
