It does the same thing as REX and ASE except that it does not have cloud textures and uses it's own. It also has some extra non weather features. Some like it better than AS & REX and some do not. You pays your money and you takes yer choice.

It is a pure weather generator, it does not have any textures at all. In fact it works quite well if you want to use REX textures. I personally love it in terms of weather generation. It is very accurate and renders overcast conditions perfectly. It also a feature similar to EZDOK, with camera views and turbulence.

Opus does 2 things.

1. It is a view manager. It allows you to set up different views for each plane and assign them to hotkeys. I only bought it for the weather program but now find it indispensable for assigning unique views for each aircraft.

2. It is a real-time weather condition generator. It reads the current METAR reports and displays that weather flawlessly in FSX. It is hands down the best weather program for displaying low IFR conditions. If the visibility is 1 mile you will se the airport at 1 mile. No sooner! I find it much better than REX weather or ActiveSky.

It includes no textures. If you don't have REX or AS it will use the default cloud textures.

I LOVE IT!

Actually, by specification it does 3 things (exceptionally well!) :-

1. Awesome Weather engine that depicts weather, clouds, fog, etc more realistically than anything else in FSX, in my opinion.

2. View Manager (as Eddie said above).

3. Dynamic Head movement simulator; putting some awesome movements, vibrations and shaking into your planes (similar to EZDOK but in my opinion more realistic).

It's a superb utility - worthy every penny.

Oh yes, Raul. Forgot to mention. But the head movement REALLY ups the realism in the sim!!

I thought Opus was Sheriff Andy's son? Along with "Aunt Bee" they all lived in Mayberry RFD?

It does weather, very nicely, no textures, you supply your own textures

has camera views with turbulence and landing effects

but, it has it's most unique and revolutionary feature, the ability to set up views across a lan that maintain the weather in each window, and, they are working on being able to see the ai like that too.

It works very well with rex because when opus generates the weather it will use the rex textures.

I use Opus with Flight Environment X textures, which I feel give a more restrained and realistic look.

Opus is - for once - a product that deserves the hype.

Indeed ;-)

I'm using Opus with REX, but use FEX now for the clouds as I get less flicker with FEX clouds where they merge into mountain sides, and they look a little more real to me. Tried the Shaking and DHM in Opus over the weekend, but just couldnt get it looking right to me, so its back to Ezdok for now. Looking forward to the new A2A Accufeel 2 with turbulence effects. So Opus it is for weather generation, have removed AS2012.

Well, more correctly it doesn't have it's own, so it uses whatever you currently have loaded - default, REX, AS, FEX or whatever.

It reads the current METAR reports and displays that weather flawlessly in FSX.

Opus is a very good product, but "flawlessly" is a bit over the top. Every wx product makes compromises, and there's a reason that Opus' developers continue to evolve the product. It's very good, but it's not flawless.

Not trying to knock Opus - I have it, use it, enjoy it and it's very good - even exceptional in some areas, though I still continue to use the current REX engine more often due to a few personal preferences.
