January 2, 201313 yr Hi all, Looking for a site that gives on line information about active runway. The www.plane-mad.com site seems not to work anymore. Thanks, Christos
January 2, 201313 yr I suggest you take a look at the METAR of your desired Airport. With wind-information it's peanuts. Nik Reineke
January 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member For what it's worth, you're not going to find many free sites out there that have this information. Kyle Rodgers
January 2, 201313 yr Yes, their site appears to have changed as from this morning. Try the following site www.icao.dk Gives all the NB info Trevor
January 2, 201313 yr I suggest you take a look at the METAR of your desired Airport. With wind-information it's peanuts. Nik Reineke Doesn't necessarily give the runway in use. Local procedures frequently have tail winds on the preferred take-off runway.
January 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member Sorry for the somewhat unhelpful response earlier: A lot of the facilities on VATSIM have some sort of runway selector, like this one. If you're using real world weather, I normally just take a look at FlightAware and infer it from the aircraft depicted on the flight map. Local procedures frequently have tail winds on the preferred take-off runway. Exactly. Kyle Rodgers
January 2, 201313 yr Yep, I just look at flightradar24 or similar sites to figure out the runway in use. It works well from my smartphone, which I managed to turn into a small and handy EFB. With kind regards, Bogdan Misko.
January 3, 201313 yr You should also check the airfield charts - usually the textual information page - for anything regarding Preferential Runways. Bill Casey
January 3, 201313 yr Depending where you are in the world, Flightradar24 can pretty much tell you. - Luke Pabari
January 3, 201313 yr If not on vatsim and being shouted at to tune to a frequency which I checked and didn't exist 10 minutes ago! lol, I usually just check the metar at the intended destination and land as close to down wind as possible. It bugs me when vatsims controllers do that, they don't seem to get it that in BA virtual we are not allowed to pause as the system detects it and we loose the entire flight, add fuel or even go away from the computer as it detects that also and makes us file a manual position report every so often. So when you've checked to see who is online and no atc is online for your intended flight plan, you've got ready and took off, started a good SID and are about to do a few more procedures before you reach the end of a sid and then a bloomin controller boots you out of vatsim, it's not nice lol. Soap box rant over with.
January 4, 201313 yr In Canada: http://atm.navcanada.ca/iwv/ gives you a live list of some of the major airports. Click on the airport you are interested in, and look for which runways have their lights on (and intensity), as well as any ILS equipment (if equipped). It gives you a good idea which ones are active. Patrick Houghton
January 4, 201313 yr Certainly in Oz the ATIS records the current runway use and this can be found on the airservices Australia website. However here in Perth it's not uncommon for the runway to be switched very suddenly as the strong SW sea-breeze pushes the hot NE wind out! Imagine being at FL100 and suddenly being told you are landing on the opposite runway ...... James Cleverley Perth, Western Australia "yes that's the furthest place from anywhere"
January 4, 201313 yr For a select number of U.S. airports, I use the following site. It is a live, constantly refreshing view of traffic, and shows the runway in use in real time or historical time. http://www.passur.com/airportmonitor-locations.htm A.J. Domingo
