FSX using latest face track noir free software

Featured Replies

Hi all , I just wanted to let you all know the developer of facetrack noir is really getting there now with this software , the last version was still a bit to twitchy , but this latest version has 2 filters & the new filter is really good. I have up loaded a video to my you tube account, paulsleighty, for you all to have a look at . I think this looks as smooth as the vids I have seen using trackir. Let me know what you think . Title is, FSX , facetrack noir v1.7 , just flight spitfire.

It seems you have it working quite nicely. I tryed this software a while back and could'nt get to grips with it. I tryed it with other sims too. Maybe my webcam is old but it was'nt working right. Actually i'm not sure i'm that comfortable with these head tracking programs. I just prefer EZCA or perhaps OPUS cameras which i have yet to try.

How does it compare to Trackir? Obviously its alot cheaper.

: )

Kind Regards

Simon.

Well for one its free , using your web cam , assuming you have one , my sister in law gave me an old Microsoft web cam that is nowhere near as High a resolution as what you can get today. Looking at trackir vids I'd say the latest facetrack noir looks as smooth , the older version didn't have this new filter & kept dancing around sending your eyes funny , but you don't get that with this version.

Looks pretty darn good and with no and with no head gear required is a huge plus to me. What kind of performance hit is there?

Wow, not bad!, not bad at all. I think I have a webcam somewhere collecting dust. I just might try this!.

Thanks for the heads-up.

On my system I didn't see any performance hit.

Is there any recommended cheap web cam to get that works well with this program? The main site list for compatible cams is huge but wondering if there is one or two that work particularly well with Facetrack.

My dad bought a hd web cam to run this software , no I'm not a youngster he's a pensioner into fsx , when we were running v1.6 his was very slightly more stable than mine on an old non hd web cam , but not vastly different , so is say just get what you fancy , I may still buy a hd one but I'm not in any rush as the one I have works fine.

YYou could ask wim friend , the developer whether there are any he'd recommend you to get . he is really good at replying to questions , I made a small donation to him , & he gave me a link to the v1.7 beta software but I believe from what he told me the release is imminent, & that is completely free. I donated to him last year as trackir is really expensive & I wanted to help him in his endeavours & I donated again last week as I wanted to try v1.7 & I'm so glad I did.

When I last looked the PS3 Eye (not the toy) was recommended.

I tried the eye with the previous FTN on my old dual-core system last year and decided FPS were more important.

Will try again with the new FTN on a quad-core.

Cheers

...

Will be following this thread carefully to see how it pans out..

What's the maximum working distance from camera to face?

Hello,

Where can I find "How to" install this tool and make the relation with FSX?

Thanks in advance

I have TIR, and the biggest setback for me is the headgear you have to wear. I am really interested in this! Could we have some links please?

Install is now very simple, used to be complicated.

For FSX just select the Simconnect drop down option, click [start] and it will work

It DOES need tweaking, and results will never be as good as TIR, but worth a try.

I gave up on previous versions, am trying again.

Cheers
