January 24, 201313 yr is it a pc sim or it can be PS3 sim? I'm pretty sure it will be based on a PC system...I wouldn't think the PS3 would be able to handle such a thing...
January 25, 201313 yr Well, I think that should they keep the FSX customers (like myself) supplied with enough excellent aircraft, I cannot see myself changing to another platform easily, but yes, time will tell. January 25, 201313 yr Just like they did with FS9, they will stop developing for FSX one day. If they didn't use this "system" we'd still be running PMDG planes on FS 1.0. It's called evolution. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Aerofly FS yet. Even though the scenery is of course rather limited right now, as a proof of concept, I think it has very good potential. Of course, this is from a consumer viewpoint, I haven't got a clue what goes on on a developer's level in Aerofly FS. Name available upon request

As far as I am aware, Aerofly FS devs are developing another version/completely new simulator. If its not Aerofly then we are in for a pleasant surprise!

Next step of the evolution for flight simulation will be global scenery with photo-realistic maps. What company can deliver that? MS did great job with FSX by putting 20,000 realistic (for 2006) airports that are still usable and recognizable. Nikolay Klimchuk
January 28, 201313 yr Which is exactly why I stated the "proof of concept" part. ;-) Name available upon request
January 28, 201313 yr Yeah, Aerofly FS would be the ultimate dream if it had full world scenery with 20,000 detailed airports. I mean, both physically and graphically it's really a piece of art. Playing it, I am really realising what we're actually missing in FSX: this gorgeous scenery and water, and those beautiful shadows and sunlight effects shining inside the cockpit (these just add such a huge amount of immersion to the thing), great flight dynamics, smooth gameplay, and above all a stable platform that doesn't require any tweaking. Of course we do have add-ons for FSX like REX, GEX and UTX to make FSX look great, but comparing directly to Aerofly FS, FSX even with those add-ons, is nothing compared to it. I mean, FSX has been kind of a strange platform if you think about it. For me personally, I've been spending 50% of my FSX career optimizing the performance and attempting to fix problems like CTD's, and the other 50% of my FSX career was spent to actually enjoying the game itself. Just look at this video of Aerofly FS, I would love to have these sunlight effects in PMDG planes! #gorgeous. Arjen Vandervelde

Very good point. FSX is Microsoft product after all and requires constant maintenance. However addons are also heavily adding complexity to this mix. In many cases just complete reinstallation can help. Nikolay Klimchuk
January 28, 201313 yr I would love to have these sunlight effects in PMDG planes! They sure look nice! DX10 supposedly possesses VC shadowing effects, but I have not really noticed them. In many cases just complete reinstallation can help. True, but scheduling complete reinstallations in order to maintain performance still qualifies as a form of "constant maintenance".
