  1. That can be said about pretty much all flight simulation products including FSX and P3D. None of them provide reliable platform to run simulation of sophisticated commercial jet with high quality airports, AI traffic, ATC, AIRAC cycles and so on. Serious bugs are not fixed for years. I gave Steam Edition a try because of the price $4.99 Unfortunately issue with joystick disconnect is still reproducible on Windows 8. I believe really good simulator is waiting us in the future. Just don't know if I be able to wait so long.
  2. Well PMDG 777 doesn't work for me under Steam Edition. I was able to install and can load aircraft but can't click anything and lcds just blank.
  3. Yeah, escalator would be nice I had a chance to disembark from 777 using stairs in LHR Almost missed my connection flight
  4. I did not have a problem to disable RAAS because it was D.O.A. with error message every time when I start FSX: Flight Simulator has detected a problem with a third-party software program (add-on): Name: RAAS Professional Version: 1.2.1.36 Company: FS2Crew ....................
  5. I'm buying new iPhone every 2 years for $200. Not sure why you picked smartphones as a base line to measure expenses. It's just plain wrong.
  6. Waited 2 years, can wait one/two/... more week(s)
  7. Still pretty much all of them landed on right side of runway and then steered back to center-line. If x-wind was perfectly compensated by rudder it would be other way around. Just before touchdown be on left side and wait until wind shift you to center-line of runway.
  8. In many areas FSX is old (obsolete) product. You can try to set it up alone and succeed but with powerful add-ons like PMDG it's becoming almost impossible task. Especially if you have limited resources: RAM, CPU, GPU. Microsoft is also adding complexity by not supporting FSX and making its bugs last forever.
  9. Still no updates? What left for us is joking around... Will 777-8X be included?
  10. First of all it's not realistic at all. Terminal SID/STAR charts don't have scale. I would buy EFB for iPad or for Windows that will be able to communicate with PMDG 777. The most important things are performance calculations and capability to transfer them to PMDG 777 FMC. It should look like http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_23/EFB.pdf Too bad it does not exist!
  11. I agree with the common visual perception of the B777-200 as a short aircraft. Same applicable for 767-200. 777-300 is looking bigger but visually not that big as 747-400/-8 because of the sleek/streamlined fuselage
  12. Probably longer than build a real 777-300ER
  13. Very good point. FSX is Microsoft product after all and requires constant maintenance. However addons are also heavily adding complexity to this mix. In many cases just complete reinstallation can help.
  14. Too much stuff is missing in Aerofly FS. Next step of the evolution for flight simulation will be global scenery with photo-realistic maps. What company can deliver that? MS did great job with FSX by putting 20,000 realistic (for 2006) airports that are still usable and recognizable.
  15. I don't want to speculate how good PMDG 777 will be. It's still based on aging FSX that is not supported by MS anymore. With all limitations in mind I don't really know what to expect. Bought PMDG 747 few years ago and it has annoying bugs that are not yet fixed (and never will). My max price for airplane is $100-120 Suspect will ended up paying more for -200LR and -300ER
  16. Yes, autoland should be tested every 28 days on 777 but from simulation point of view it does not help to learn any skills. However some of them look really nice in real world Actually I expect something like that from PMDG 777 ;-)
  17. Let's see: 1. Start from cold&dark cockpit 2. Real departure and arrival times and that means no time acceleration ever because that can screw up flight model 3. Real warmup time for IRS, no cheating here 4. Planning of cargo/pax/fuel load and manual entering of flight plan in FMC 5. Real STAR/SID procedures (when available) 6. After cruise level reached I can get some rest and that is what real pilots do as well! 7. ILS or Visual approach, no autoland 8. Shut down everything in cockpit before leaving FSX And YES my wife doesn't understand why I'm setting alarm on 5am Sunday morning to check fuel balance on 747
  18. FSX is a very flexible platform for simulation. That's why it's still with us after all these years. For now I see just 3 big problems with it: 1) Its graphic engine is outdated and can't be replaced with newer version. 2) It's not 64 bit 3) It's not reliable enough: can be easily broken by some configuration settings or addons PS. We still use Windows XP at work, it's 12 years old
  19. I'm wondering if/when we will be able to run PMDG simulations on multiple computers? Something like: 1 PC: FSX with powerful GPUs 2 PC: PMDG simulation with powerful CPUs I'm thinking about building 777 cockpit and PDMG 777 is essential (actually the only) choice. Also there are great weather FSX add-ons on market. Is it possible to use them for weather radar instead of FSX weather model?
  20. I need just 777-200LR and -300ER and now I'm waiting for screenshots
  21. It's a shame that after 16 years in service 777 still did not get a good representation in flight simulation world. I hope PMDG will fix it soon. And by the way you can use 777 for domestic flights too, nothing wrong with that.
  22. My priorities are1) -200LR2) -300ER
  23. I would be happy with just 772LR and 773ER

I disagree. MD-11 is already 99% cargo airplane and 747-400 will be replaced with 777 and 747-8 in next 5-7 years (at least for major air carriers)PDF report
