UTX vs. SceneryTech?

Featured Replies

Checked SceneryTech official site moments ago, and comparison shots. I'm pleasantly surprised by the comparison, and on the frst hand it looks better visually and scenery is more detailed than UTX.

But first things first, what is the difference between UX and SceneryTech? Both products are landclass addons as far as I know.

Which product you prefer and why?

cheers

Technically they are both landclasss products. However, they are two entirely different products that cannot be compared.

UTX is a major change to the structure of the scenery which include some landclass and SceneryTech is a landclass only product which when properly installed and layered with UTX will fill in the gaps UTX does not cover.

If you have neither, you would most defintely want UTX first. You could then at a later time layer another landclass product with UTX.

I happen to use UTX, SceneryTech and X-Class and switch between SceneryTech and X-Class products depending on where I am flying.

Thanks for explanation.

Yes, I have UTX Europe, and after I accidentally saw some screenshots of UTX + SceneryTech combination it got me completely interested. Since I'm from Serbia, and UTX does not cover my country, it's sad when I'm flying over Belgrade and I can't see the city! If SceneryTech covers Serbia well, I'm in!

Even if it does cover Serbia, it will not add everything that UTX offers, of course... So you will not see the real roads of Belgrade as UTX shows the real roads of other cities.

My combo is GEX Europe, UTX and Scenery Tech Europe. Seems to work well. I did some comparison shots of areas in England a while back where i used to live and the difference on the whole much better with Scenery Tech squeezed in between UTX entries. But as mentioned depends where you want the landclass in the world as others might do better job elsewhere. : )

Kind Regards

Simon.

Ok, I bought SceneryTech Europe today, only 11mb download, interesting. Moving SceneryTech entry between some UTX entries as advised will give a better definition of forests, fields, generally all rural areas that UTX does not covers so well. Checked Belgrade right away, it's there, but not as good as I espected. Maybe I expected too much. I would love to see Xclass presentation of Belgrade.

You can try Srbija VFR, according to screenshots it might be good.

Thanks mate for a suggestion.

I have Serbia VFR freeware, and now I really don't know where to add it in Scenery Library? Between UTX and scenerytech entries? I will try few combinations.

Wanna see some screenshots of Scenerytech compared to XClass and UTX check out my blog. Review in progress here: http://simmerhead.wordpress.com/

Hmmm I tested the Montenegro moments ago with SceneryTech, and didn't found Budva at all, wiped out! Maybe for Montenegro I must move SceneryTech entry on top of UTX landclass entries?

Whats that scenery tech? I suppose there are no textures, just corrected landclass, that would explain low size?

It shouldn't matter since the area isn't overed by UTX, but this is how it should be placed in your scenery library:

UT Landclass – Urban

3rd-party Landclass entries

UT Landclass – Vegetation

It is just landclass assignments, no textures.

As for corrected - I'd rather say it is different, but still not very accurate.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

I guess its some automated process of building these sceneries, and there is no automated process than can make highly accurate sceneries, if you want it to match real world, you need to place all things by hand.

I found that with using Scenery Tech Landclass with UTX makes my home area more accuate . I had purchased Scenery Tech prior to UTX so being able to use both makes my day.

I found that using Fscene with Ultimate Terrain vastly improved my terrain. I haven't tried Scenery Tech, so I can't compare with FScene, but I am totally happy with the latter.

You can't compare Fscene and Scenerytech. One is a ground replacement textures (and in a very low quality), second is a landclass definitions.
