Meteorite in Russia

Featured Replies

No bits found? Looks like something had to hit the ground.

I read one report that said it came down in a lake. What are the odds of that?

It sure was eye opening news this morning. Shocking to see so many injuries. I truly hope everyone makes a good recovery!

I started thinking about the timing with the flyby of the known one later today. I then thought that it's possible to have a cluster arrive together and that the known one could be part of a larger group of unknown ones. There are those who say we may have had close calls in the not so distant past.

I heard it was an Alien space craft. Whatever it was, it was an Air blast not just a sonic boom. Science cant agree on exactly what it was. Of course the russians are claiming its a Comet and the rest of the world believes it was a 10 ton either rock or iron core object. It is almost too much of a coincidence the larger asteroid is approaching earth today. Could it been a piece of the rock broke off from the main mass? Which wouldnt be uncommon.

that 3rd video with the sonic booooooooms is amazing :O

Probably how you would feel seeing a nuclear missile come down. Two thoughts. "Oh crap, that doesn't look good......." Quickly followed by "I have no idea which way to go or what to do to avoid this. Bye, everyone!"

There's goes the theory we wouldn't see it coming... The dinosaurs most likely saw it coming as well. I can see now we would see a missile coming before it hit.

Another mercy is that it happened (too bad it happened anywhere) in the back end of Russia. If that happened over New York, for instance, the panic and pandemonium would be epic.

And you don't even wanna contemplate all the broken glass and opportunistic looting and........

Well, lets just say it would be a total mess.

Nah, would be the same, just more videos in HD.

Or, wait, people would fear the impact on the stock markets more than the actual meteorite. :O I sense there's some truth in that statement. Not good. Glad people 'only' got injured.

There was an asteroid 150 ft wide due to cross within the orbital boundaries of our satellites (within 17000miles of the earth) today. They said there was no chance of it hitting the Earth though. Could this have been it?

Good point. He was active too, yes. NASA has some footage on the fly-by. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/5808990

Now where is the guy asking who throws them at us? Also, since recommending Universe Sandbox lately, I fear that I've pressed the wrong button somewhere.

My thought would probably be "Da*n, I just get FSX running right and the world comes to and end!"

About ten years ago I was camping at Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye and about 1am went to the toilet block. As I thumped the dryer switch I heard a loud crack, seemed I'd caused it. Came out into broad daylight. For a moment thought it was daytime and wondered where the hell everyone had gone. Then realised a fireball like that in the video was travelling across the sky. Disappeared over the mountains. Back came the night and no-one was any the wiser next morning.

And no media report on the event, Steve?

Tangential to all of this, I am on the third book in a series about aliens who attack humanity with comets/meteors to destroy the earth. And they succeed. Several times....... :P

Living in the Eternal Forest, the Joon follow in the ways of peace and, seeing the future with ease, they avoid all pain and conflict and live a contented life. Until the Anvil of Change, the greatest of their visionaries, foresees a terrible danger that cannot be avoided – not without violating all the laws of the Great Mother.

Not only must the Joon learn to kill, but they must destroy an entire world, a world inhabited by ten billion people who have done them no harm. And so begins a long and painful journey, where the Joon must learn the ways of war and take to the stars. Converting their moon and transplanting the Eternal Forest, they sojourn through the deeps of space to find and capture a cloud of monstrous comets. Implanting massive gravity generators, they send these icy harbingers of death to a neighbouring star, to the planet earth and the species called human.

But the mission is not to destroy the humans – not quite. The Joon must manipulate the future of the humans in not one, but three separate timelines and force them to converge and bring forth the Forge of Time, the human who will bend the very fabric of time itself to his will. The one prophesied to save the people of three worlds from an implacable enemy and build an empire to rule a thousand stars.

If that intrigues anyone, give the books a shot! http://www.amazon.co...ntt_at_ep_dpt_1

My mother will love that phrase. Wait. :O

Devon, since you are there. Please explain why the Aliens always want the whole planet? Can't they start with a country or something? Or a farm maybe? I mean, the could build a company for e.g. mobile phones and then indoctrinate us to fsafsdvxydv5rgsdvg

Let me go! I have a Nokia! I will throw it!

Because they watch broadcasts of our politicians on C-Span and conclude that there are no intelligent lifeforms currently inhabiting the Earth?

(Well...... the Russians on these videos seem to have comported themselves well, under the circumstances.)

Seems legit. :O And when they grab the sports program, they'll think that war is about all we know. Still trying to figure out what they'll think when Sponge Bob is running though.

'Lets throw a meteorite at them!' Splash.

I love how in the first video he tries to drive faster toward its landfall, yet that could be 50 or more miles away...lol
