February 28, 201313 yr Some pretty significant GA airports, some of which handle commercial pax traffic. Beloved Oshkosh (KOSH) is on the list! http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/Facilities_Could_Be_Closed.pdf In my sim flying I frequent some of these, like my home base of Easton, MD. I have also been flying often out of Bloomington, IN; Lafayette, IN; KOSU in Columbus, OH; Baltimore Martin State, MD; Philadelphia Northeast, PA; Lakeland, Fla (which also hosts a large aviation show each year). Lafayette, IN is the home of the school of aviation at Purdue University, one of the few major universities with a degree program for pilots. Also includes some primary airports at state capitals, like Jefferson City, Mo, Salem, Ore, Sante Fe, NM, Springfield, Ma, Topeaka, Ks, Springfield, IL. February 28, 201313 yr Wierd document. Looking at my home state, KBJC is on the list - but called "Broomfield Tower" and listed as being in "Westminster, CO". Hmmm. The airport was long known as Jefferson County Airport (Jeffco for most of us), but is now called Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. It is located mostly in Broomfield, although small chunks of the land are in the very edges of Westminster. "Broomfield Tower in Westminster, CO"? Huh? I expect many of these have traffic levels that really don't justify a tower any longer as GA traffic levels continue to drop. As for KOSH, whether the tower is decommissioned or not, I'm sure there will be a tower for a short time each summer no matter what. Scott
February 28, 201313 yr Not that many in New York. Not any Near NYC or in that area either. February 28, 201313 yr Wow...some of these seem like they'd be a little dangerous to close. Has traffic slowed at Grand Strand (CRE) and MCN (Macon, Georgia)? Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
February 28, 201313 yr Author My home field, KESN, positions itself as a regional business jet port, but it lacks significant traffic of that type in this non-rebounding economy. The two in my region I am most surprised with are Wilmington, DE, and Philly NE. Also, Hagerstown, MD has a good deal of GA traffic and has been the home base for some noteworthy influencers in aviation, including key members of AOPA, by far the strongest lobbyist in GA. Anyone who has studied and learned flying IRL will recognize this name. Based in Hagerstown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_L._Collins Frank Patton Corsair 5000D Airflow Case; MSI B650 Tomahawk MOB; Ryzen 7 7800 X3D CPU; ASUS RTX 4080 Super; NZXT 360mm liquid cooler; Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM; RMX850X Gold PSU;; ASUS VG289 4K 27" Display; Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Crosswind 3's w/dampener. February 28, 201313 yr Who needs government! In all actually, it probably just shows the huge decline in GA. Sioux City Iowa. Wouldn't that have been fun for United flight 232 trying to get there in the emergency with no tower!

Wouldn't that have been fun for United flight 232 trying to get there in the emergency with no tower! How did a tower help 232? The airport I work at will be shutting down which will be interesting with the overlying final to the international airport. About 90% of these airports really don't need a tower. The most difficult will be he increased workload for the Enroute controllers and IFR. We will definitely get practice at our holds again. Chris Miller

February 28, 201313 yr Are you trying to get your email and phone number on a spam list Remy? Enjoy getting emails and phone calls from people trying to sell you adult entertainment products? If not, I really would suggest NOT putting your personal contact information on a public forum for bots to take and add to their spam databases. Or dont. Just trying to save you a heck of a lot of heartache. Howard H. "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" -Mahatma Gandhi
February 28, 201313 yr Moderator Oh my, KGYY is on that list. They handle an average of 200 a/c every day, and since it's so close to MDW and ORD, that's just begging for trouble... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Since I joined this forum I have not gotten any emails or phone calls any different than before, but I will remove my number and email. I meant to yesterday but forgot. Thanks. Btw I don't wanna hijack this thread so lets stop talking about me and go back to the topic that whoever started this post intended to talk about.
