Has flight sim spoiled you?

Featured Replies

I bought PS3 one month ago and i played only 3 times!! i did not touch it since one week!!! Good to know other people have the same feeling.

Im always attracted by FSX because simply its an endless world to discover and its connected to the real world!! FSX (modified with add ons payware + feeware) is becoming a duplication of the real world. Its a universal sim with no limits!!! except for FPS :)

I tend to Fly for a bit and then hit other games. At the moment I am flying about half the time.

Also playing Far Cry 3 and Minecraft at the moment. ..

I started flight-simming in 2009...... at that time I owned a PS3, Xbox 360 as well as a bunch of games for them(around 65). I sold them all including the consoles. IMO Flight-simming beats anything and you never get bored of flying (as far as you've got realistic planes and scenery) and has become an enjoyable hobby.

I used to love online RPGs like World of Warcraft. I was always interested in flying, so I got to try FSX when my parents got it for me. Ever since then I quit every other game except for simulation games (Bus Driver, Ship Simulator etc.) Every once and a while I'll play a strategy turn-based game. But flying is peaceful and since I only do civilian transport, I can work around my schedule. I'll start a 9 hour flight, go to a carnival, have dinner, come back, and land. It's easy to work around. During the week I use my B738 for 1-4 hour short/medium haul flights. Weekends I fly my A330/A340 and B767 on flights of 5-15 hours depending upon the time slots available.

It's funny because I can't exactly explain why I'd rather sit looking at virtual sky for 7 hours on a flight, than play one of other games that people my age tend to play.

I used to know FPS as First-Person-Shooter, not Frames-Per-Second.

It´s just that they don´t make so interesting games anymore. It is a pity really, now that we don´t have to buy a new video card for every new game in town. Graphics would be spot on.

I miss mostly the Thief series and the Half-Life. I guess it is because the developers have to make the games for every platform at the same time and that means over-simplified games for PC. The games seem to lack good stories nowadays as well.

I think I buy Far Cry 3 though, from next Christmas sales...

I think that the problem is that most games have an end, and even when you play the game all over again, the end is still there, and even sandbox games eventually get boring because you run out of things to do, and that's the secret to flightsim's success to us, and that is that there is no end and you can't run out of things to do. Another point is that when I go up in FSX or DCS, that there will always be surprises, and even failures is flightsims are fun because they offer challenge.

I'm the opposite to most here i guess. I love FS, but i usually don't use it for aimless wondering around the virtual skies to relax, that bores me very quickly. I usually have a purpose to my flight and over half the time I am developing something. I also spend lots of time with SIMS3 and the Ghost Recon series and also have pacific fighters, DCS Black Shark, Tropico 4 and ARMA2 installed for when the mood hits me. Matter of fact I am coming off a week of vacation tomorrow and I actually spent 2 days inside GRAW playing COOP with 3 friends, it was great fun!

Best, Michael
