March 7, 201313 yr More Wings of Prey screenshots over England--hope you enjoy! (For those who don't know, Wings of Prey can be purchased from Steam for $19.99). With my graphics card, fps is pegged at 60fps with what's displayed in these screenshots. John
March 7, 201313 yr Very realistic looking screenshots! I particularly like the two views of the wing. Florian
March 7, 201313 yr Really nice. Thanks for sharing Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
March 7, 201313 yr Simply stunning! Great shots! Trevor Bair CMEL+IR | PA32R-301T & C208BMy Real World Travels
March 9, 201313 yr excellent shots, though I am not so impressed by the model, especially the wing view. Never seen rivets like that on a P-51... All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2
March 9, 201313 yr You sort of feel like you're there...65 years ago. Beautiful. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
March 10, 201313 yr excellent shots, though I am not so impressed by the model, especially the wing view. Never seen rivets like that on a P-51... I've never been that close to a P-51 to know the difference. I tried googling some pics of the P-51 but couldn't find a hi res view of the wing. Regardless, I am happy with the model. One can go crazy seeking them to be 100 pct. bona fide. As long as it looks like a P-51 from a fair distance I'm happy. Do you know the P-47 well? If so take a look at my P-47 thread and let me know what you think. I followed the same pattern for my pics--external views, a cockpit view and some wing views. And thanks everyone for taking the time to comment--I always welcome the comments and it makes these posts worthwhile. Regards, John Edit: Saw a good pic of a P-51 on airliners.net and from what I saw the wing looks a lot "cleaner" with fewer rivets. I don't really mind though--the fluidity and feeling of flight in this sim makes up for most of its imperfections.
March 10, 201313 yr One thing that made the P-51 special was its 'laminar flow' wing. All the rivets were sunk in the wing, filled and sanded to make for a perfectly smooth surface and then painted with grey paint, to make the surface even smoother, so as not to disturb the laminar flow. So those rivets in your shots look a bit strange to me, to say the least. Clearly, the developer never saw a real P-51. Still, wonderful shots, and good to hear you are enjoying it! All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2

Some developers design products to be more aesthetically appealing than realistic, often due to FSX limitations. In this case, had the developer not modeled overly prominent rivets, some users might have criticized the exterior model for not looking battle-worn enough. Another example: Many (including myself) like the high-contrast colors of FlyTampa and FTX products. Compare FlightSoft Hong Kong with FlyTampa Hong Kong. The former possesses more-realistic lighting, but simply does not look aesthetically appealing in FSX. Also, there is currently a thread discussing McPhat Studios. Some appreciate how McPhat Studios emphasizes visual details not very prominent on real aircraft (rivets, shininess, etc.)—which may create the illusion that its repaints are of higher resolution—while others do not.
March 10, 201313 yr It may be a difference in opinion or style, but this is not what a real Mustang looks like, with those huge rivets. There are other errors, both in the shape and details of the model, as well as in the paint (the roundel is wrong for one), but that is only clear for a nitpicker like me. That does not detract from the wonderful screenies with their great atmosphere and lighting, in fact it made me want to buy ###### as well. Unfortunately, steam wouldn't let me (unknown error, transaction not completed). Probably better, I would have been annoyed by the Mustang in all likelihood, but I was looking forward to the Boston... All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2
March 10, 201313 yr I might have to pick this up and try it. Is the dogfighting any good? William Sequeira
