March 8, 201313 yr I agree. To those who use Firefox: the reason I converted to Chrome was the crazy memory leaks I experienced. Is this still a common issue? Please take this question for what it is, a genuine question. I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not too hot on computer stuff. I use Firefox and everything works. How would I know if I had a memory leak? Although at this moment I'm using Chrome on somebody else's comp. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
March 8, 201313 yr Chrome. For one thing autosyncing all bookmarks. For instance if I add a bookmark on the laptop, it shows up on the main computer when I log onto Google without running any import utility. Except when printing. I find it much easier to print from I.E. and have the output on the printed sheet come out in a format that looks like the webpage. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. March 9, 201313 yr Hi! Since Ai have my new PC with Win 7 64bit, I simply use IE 10. Before that, I had Firefox installed on all my PCs.
March 9, 201313 yr I use firefox and have done for years now. The only time I have used IE is to download firefox on the first day of getting my new laptop! "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend
March 9, 201313 yr Author I use Firefox and everything works. How would I know if I had a memory leak? What I was noticing was I would have one tab open, browsing a forum, and FF was using 500MB-1gig of memory. From my very laymen understanding of memory, when it rises considerably for no apparent reason, it can be a memory leak. On my Alienware, I never noticed as I have 12gig of ram and it's a beast. But I did notice on my travel laptop and my friend's slower laptop as well. BTW, I like your signature I use firefox and have done for years now. The only time I have used IE is to download firefox on the first day of getting my new laptop! LOL, I know how that goes... That's me too... March 9, 201313 yr Using IE since version 9 beta. It's got all the functionality I need without resorting to add-ons. I dropped FF when it started to revolve around the add-ons to provide functionality instead of including it from the start. No Chrome because I'm done with giving Google info about me. The few times I need another browser due to incompatibility I go to SRWare Iron, basically Chrome/Chromium with all the Google stuff ripped out.
March 9, 201313 yr Used Opera for quite a few years, and finally moved to Chrome late last year due to Opera's scripting issues. Chrome is a great balance between all the browsers, and Firefox takes up too much memory, while Safari is missing a lot of functionality. From my very laymen understanding of memory, when it rises considerably for no apparent reason, it can be a memory leak. Looking at the test you linked to in the opening post I would guess Firefox' memory problems are a thing of the past since it won both memory tests. Surprisingly Chrome seems to be taking up more than twice as much as FF. I currently have 12 tabs open and memory usage is hovering around 300 MB. Rolf Lindbom
March 9, 201313 yr I quite often have Firefox open even when I'm runing the sim. I have never had a any leaks. Indeed the base of my computer is bone dry! Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
