Problems with CH controllers and CH Manager software

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, first of all I made an account at CH-hangar to ask about this but I don't have posting priviledges yet for whatever reason, so I thought I would ask here.

OK, so anyone who is familiar with CH products and their CH Manager software knows that it puts a "CH Control Manager Root Device" in your drivers that picks up any CH device that is plugged in and installs it as a generic HID device which the CH software can then work with.

I have a CH fighterstick, pedals, TQ, and yoke. The problem is this. Recently after I flashed my motherboard BIOS to the latest version, as well as replacing the front USB port panel of my case, the CH Root Device is not picking up any of my CH stuff when I plug it in. In other words, when I plug in my pedals for example I just get the generic "CH PRO PEDALS USB" in the device manager which is the default driver that normally installs automatically if you DON'T have CH Manager installed. This means that CH Manager can't see it, calibrate it, and do all the other neat things it's capable of.

If I click "scan for devices" in CH Manager, it suddenly detects the device, but then I have TWO entries in my Devices and Printers window, and FSX/FSUIPC just have no idea what to do with that (two drivers for each device plugged in)

I'm totally clueless here, everything was working flawlessly until I updated the BIOS but as far as I can tell, the new BIOS didn't change a thing with the USB ports or their settings. Also I can't see how the new front USB port panel I swapped in would effect anything since that's basically just a USB hub and my devices aren't even plugged into that, anyway.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated :)

Hmmm, I haven't seen anything quite like this before. Have you tried a reinstall of CH Manager, which may require that you unplug the controllers first prior to uninstalling the current version?

If you arre using the registered version of FSUIPC you can assign and calibrate your CH hardware through that. I do, and dont have any CH software installed.

I also have FSUIPC4  and have ch yoke and pedals assigned thro' it but unlike pschulte have ch manager installed and have had more success with it than without it.

the ch manager does not install any drivers it only correctly assigns the HID devices in windows and  depending on which OS you have will depend whether  you have your device plugged in or not.

you could try using software like USBDeview  to see which usb devices or installed and also use the program to delete them if necessary. after sorting that out it may be best to reinstall the ch manager again and make sure you except all the widows instructions regarding the installation of the hid devices, if I recall there may be about six of them for the yoke and pedals.

I haver a ch yoke, rudders, TQ and a Saitek X52 system all connected to one computer. I use FSUIPC to map all of them and have them assigned to specific aircraft. I no longer use thew CH software - FSUIPC handles it with no problems.

I have similar controls plus x52 and the trim wheel thro fsuipc4 but running under xp pro sp3 and noticed your running w7 64bit. so when I upgrade to w7 I will give it ago without the ch manager.

not to sure but I think Peter made a revision in one of the latest versions to look for HID devices.

I did try it without the manager a few months ago but had a few hic-ups so I reloaded it.

Hi onebob,

If you go to Win7/64 (Vista64 and I'm guessing Win8/64 are the same), FS will let you access calibration from within the sim. If you calibrate it there, you're just running the standard Windows calibration and the Control Manager won't work correctly. It's feeding data into DirectX below the point where Windows applies it's calibration, so the output ends up doubly-calibrated. So long as the controllers aren't calibrated in Windows, then only the Control Manager calibration has any effect and things work again.

Clearing the Windows data isn't too hard. The quickest way is probably with the Logitech WingmanTeam "ClrCalib.exe" utility, it's available for free at:

All the controllers are cleared at once, so you need to unplug all of them, clear the data, and then use Windows to calibrate the non-CH devices, but wait until the CM is installed and calibrate the CH stuff from there. Don't calibrate anything that the Control Manager is handling in Windows, the CM won't work properly if Windows calibration is in the way.

Hi, Bob. When I went to WingmanTeam.com it looked like the last version of that utility was done in 2009 and only went through Vista. Is there something like this for Windows 7?

Thanks,

Jeff Smith

Jeff, I've used this utility in Win7 64-bit without issue. Bob knows all and has helped me a bunch.
