Big differance between actually taking over a commercial airliner remotely (which can't be done) and hacking into/modifying some company ACARS messages.

He claims to be able to inject commands to the FMS via ACARS and to be able to change the pilot displays the same way.

ACARS cannot send commands to the FMGS. I keep reading these articles and still cannot figure out what he is trying to prove? So he can hack into and read/send ACARS msg's, he even said himself that doing anything further is only theoretically possible.

Without him and people like him a lot of things might never be caught.

The fact that he seems to have dropped the ball (this time) may leave him with lottsa egg on his face, but I think he was probably sincere in his attempt to air what he thought might be a valid concern. (he certainly went through a hell of a lot of effort)

In the normal course of events, his peers would have fact-checked it and things would go from there. Unfortunately the press apparently got wind of a sensational headline and........

Keep in mind that this is just proof of concept, not yet a reality.
