Fsx as stress therapy

Featured Replies

Hey

So I thought I would ask

I kinda see this sim as a way to release stress

That is when it's not stressing me out :)

I work a very stressful job as a concert promoter and I'm around rock stars and other famous idiots quite a great deal

I really find it relaxing to do a nice night flight in the pmdg 737

Kinda makes it all go away

Anyone else feel the same or have similar stories of an odd real life job paired with a sim alter ego

Well, I wouldn't call mine a "odd" job other than I deal with a lot of odd things and people as a 911 Dispatcher. Somedays can be very stressful. After a bad day, coming home, flipping on FSX and taking a flight that requires my full concentration to complete helps get my mind off of the stressful sitiuations I dealt with at work.

Outstanding

That's what I'm talking about, I couldn't imagine being a 911 dispatcher. But could understand the stress involved

:)

Thanks

When I worked in communications, I can't even begin to how many times I wanted to reach through the phone and slap people. I was an emd/efd so after we get our basic info and enter our protocol, I would have to say "Okay stay on the line and I'm going to tell you exactly what to do"

Caller: "okay"

Now I work on the truck... That's another adventure.

Anyways, after a long shift on the ambulance, I'll come home and catch up on a few hours of sleep and do a flight. It helps get my mind off of work in general.

It's escapism. I think that's why we crave so much realism in FS these days. The more real it feels, the more you escape and the more beneficial the effects of switching off from the real world for an hour or so. It seems odd that as an escape we replicate the working day of a group of professionals who themselves increasingly complain of stress, fatigue and the demands placed upon them.

Another one who's not that interested in flying the best turboprop of all times? (Majestic Dash 8Q 400) Two forums I'm participating in; two forums nearly gone dead over that release.

Well, for sure, concentrating on a flight helps you not to brood too much over RL matters. Activate some degree of realism in your NGX so you get your hands full and your mind set. (There should be way enough realism built into that one!)

That nice scenery, with the 'living world' added to it, can actually ease your mind, in case you got stressed before: Fly some easy but scenic approach over Lake Constance, for example: You get the water, the Alps, the boats and the cars - this FSX world is alive, yet kind of peaceful.

But don't make mistakes: The 742, sometimes the 727 but, most of all, the Concorde are no cure to your mental state at all. Doing the work of three as a single person is what you were doing all day long, after all. Not exactly a good idea to carry on in your spare time the way you do your rw job - where's that break?

For some of us it may just be the other way round: A dull, boring job, no one cares about you, no challenges, no goal, no fun. That's where FSX can help you out, too: Do some (on)line flying, fly some missions, brush up your Air Hauler score, earn some rewards, handle some emergencies .. but be prepared: Don't fall into that pit, when your flight is over, FSX is shut down and you're back where you started to escape from reality.

I've been doing flightsimming for some 17 years now. Employers, places, friends (and girlfriends!) - they've all changed over time, but that sim (a number of different ones) has been around me just so long ...

Just give a thought to them: When I was young, I wanted to become a pilot.

Now I've heard of rw pilots' jobs and I'm rather worried about how that industry' conditions develop. Anyone around who'd like to apply for a pilot's seat with Ryanair, for example? Not me, that's for sure.

Can you imagine there are rw pilots, who spend even their spare time simflying or even counselling addon development?!?

What happened to AVSIM

I work on AVSIM all day long. My stress reliever? Battlefield 3... I get to shoot people there. :yahoo:

There are plenty of rw pilots here on the forums. Ronan O Cadhain for one, flies the Airbus for Aer Lingus and is a very active forum member and keen simmer. If he flew 7 sectors a day for Ryanair he might be less keen perhaps ;)

Even i as a RWP find FSX and FLIGHT  as a stress therapy

every day .......  sometimes a hammer some nails and wood works for me too ....

+1 on that Tom!

Flying does allow me to escape and come down after a rough day but after a particularly bad day, sometimes the only "fix" is BF3

Ok, please don't OOM on me. I am 1.5 hours into the flight. Please Please. Oh crap I'm starting to get spikes. Geez, don't freez please I am almost there. Ok doing good the spikes went away. Wait a minute the wing is not showing.  C'mon I am so close. Ok it's OK it's going to be OK. Almost there. Bunch of stutters. Where did that come from? Ok I am pointing my view down to look at the seat. This will help. Ok looking back up now. A little smoother now. Give me a break this is too stressful.

Not sure if it is a stress reliever or not LOL  -- Simulated and dramatized a bit but sometimes I do get stressed.
