April 21, 201313 yr When I worked in communications, I can't even begin to how many times I wanted to reach through the phone and slap people.Chase,That's hilarious. I know that feeling. Whenever I get a caller like that, I smile because they allow me to make my house payment every month. I am an EMD also. One aspect of flight sim that I have never been interested is VATSIM. I already spend forty hours a week with headset on telling people where to go. I don't feel like doing it in my spare time also. I am not knocking VATSIM. It just doesn't appeal to me personally. Bill
April 21, 201313 yr My job involves listening to people who think their opinions are correct (they often aren't), so for me FSX provides a chance to do something that is based on facts, data, procedures etc without having to consider other people's opinions in my decisions. But then every once and a while, FSX will mess something up and destroy my relaxation time with a different type of frustration :-) Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU
April 21, 201313 yr Ok, please don't OOM on me. I am 1.5 hours into the flight. Please Please. Oh crap I'm starting to get spikes. Geez, don't freez please I am almost there. Ok doing good the spikes went away. Wait a minute the wing is not showing. C'mon I am so close. Ok it's OK it's going to be OK. Almost there. Bunch of stutters. Where did that come from? Ok I am pointing my view down to look at the seat. This will help. Ok looking back up now. A little smoother now. Give me a break this is too stressful. Not sure if it is a stress reliever or not LOL -- Simulated and dramatized a bit but sometimes I do get stressed. Bob "Your C64 RAM needs to be increased from 16KB to 48KB. April 21, 201313 yr "Your C64 RAM needs to be increased from 16KB to 48KB. Please report back if this does not fix your issue." Wow, what a difference, nobody told me. Nah I got 8 gig, but like others I do experience a few glitches now and then, but I am really not complaining!! Bob Officially retired
April 21, 201313 yr Wow, what a difference, nobody told me. Nah I got 8 gig, but like others I do experience a few glitches now and then, but I am really not complaining!! Bob And I was really not aiming to offend: Just struck my mind that my flightsim stress therapy started with a C64-like home(!) computer, where 32KB had to be added to the 16KB existing to cater for my very first flightsim. That price, in those days, for the additional 32KB was just ridiculous. What happened to AVSIM

I would find disconnecting from everything elect rical/tronic and just connecting with myself with meditation helps more. Just my 2c
April 23, 201313 yr The more real it feels, the more you escape and the more beneficial the effects of switching off from the real world for an hour or so. Oculus Rift! Bring it on! Id love to go work part time as a dispatcher to get a rest from the box. On nights like this, I don't know why I do what I do. 215am and no sight of my bed in my future... Chase Barnett

Bill If I.could work a 1200-0000 then I'd be completely happy. That's right in sync with my circadian. West was a bad deal... No telling what the body count will end up being. Those were people just like you and me just doing their job when their lives were lost. Makes me realize how suddenly that can happen in this field of work. We may not be cops, but we put our assess on the line the same way that they do. Edit: Do you work for lifeguard? Chase Barnett
April 23, 201313 yr FSX is definitely a stress therapy for me. It is only me and 777, no wife, no people. Lovely Regards,Stan
April 23, 201313 yr Hopping in a glider, then riding the ridges with Cumulus X is very relaxing. Sometimes tho, I go into Secondlife, hop in a sailboat. I know SL realisim is no where near that of FSX, but the ambiance is nice. Head out to the open water, fire up some sea shanties, have a few beers...its quite relaxking "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
April 23, 201313 yr I'm not quite sure if I'd consider it stress therapy from my perspective. I work on the railroad and am on call at all sorts of weird times days, nights, holidays, you name it. So, when I'm not working I want absolutely nothing to do with trains. I like the challenge FSX provides and the ability to go anywhere in the world. Perhaps in my next life the roles will be reversed and I'll be an actual pilot, running locomotives on a computer train simulator instead  Chris Sunseri
