FSX initial load window behind others and can't play

Featured Replies

I'm having this odd problem.  For the first boot into Windows for the day, and first bootup up FSX the loading screen is behind everything, but I can see the progress bar in front of all windows.  The load takes a long time (about 4x as long as subsequent loads).  Then, when it finally loads, the whole thing minimizes to the task bar and I cannot open it.  The game doesn't seem to be frozen, because I can right click "close window," and it gives me the usual prompt (with the FSX GUI) "are you sure you want to exit...."  Then I can boot it up again in about 1/4 the time and it looks like normal.

This seems to have recently started but I'm not sure when and I don't recall adding any things to the cfg either.

Any ideas?

I was googling for this and came upon my own post!  I still have this problem anyone have any ideas?

In fact not only do I have it - I have the issue everytime now - so much for the new SSD... loading times are monstrous, and what I discovered was that the game is loaded and I can play if I use ALT+Enter - which brings me into full screen, then ALT Enter again to get to windowed mode.

Here's a picture of how it looks.... the loading bar is in front of all windows.   If I minimize fsx while loading the loading bar is still in front of all windows.

No idea why this happens but I have had a similar problem to yours for some weeks now. Mine usually opens normally on the initial load up of the day but if I start FSX by loading a saved flight then it minimises to the taskbar and I cannot open it just by clicking on it.

One way to open it however was to bring up the task manager, right click on FSX within it and choose 'maximise'.

A more recent solution which works for me however is to double click on 'show desktop' at the extreme right hand end of the task bar and then click it once again and it opens the FSX window!!

After some digging and playing around this seems to be an issues because of OPUS loading with FSX (custom exe.xml file) - on my old install this happened from time to time (hence the 2013 initial post) but with my new install it's been happening everytime.

When I load FSX the screen flashes and what I think I see is a window that minimizes (probably FSX) as it then slowly loads.

I get the same problem and don't know what causes it.  However, you can get your window back easily.  Start the file manager (CTL-ALT-DEL), right click on the FSX entry and select maximize.

Ok that's another way interesting.

On your system does the loading take a long time if this happens? Seems to be about 4 times as long when it happens to me

Heya Ryan,

Have you tried to cycle through/to FSX using ALT+TAB? It will display a windowed view of all active applications, and hitting TAB will move you forward in the list, SHIFT+TAB will move you backwards.

After I deleted the OPUS xml code from exe.xml this went away....  Still annoying as I now have to manually load OPUS.

Hi Ryan, I would let Stephen at Opus know about it, I expect he can fix that.

Yes, the load time is long when this happens.  I don't have OPUS

Tom

last time this happened to me  when using  a/h  so its not only  that opus  that's causing  it

If you have the registered version of FSUIPC one could use the "Programs: facilities to load and run additional programs" ~page 44 in the "FSUIPC4 for Advanced Users.pdf" document.

Something maybe like -

[Programs]
RunIf1=READY,CLOSE,C:\MY PATH TO\OPUS

The above will start OPUS only when FS is ready to fly and OPUS is not already started, then when FS is closed it will try to "tidily"  close OPUS.

Programs intended to be loaded with exe.xml should be aware they are started by a host and should not take focus. Something Opus should be advised about for their product. I suspect other programs may operate incorrectly started this way.

I actually started having that problem after installing FSDT Airports.

Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
