Tutorial Flight for the 777

Featured Replies

hi

What interests me is whether the tutorial flight for the 777 is already finished ?

I now no complains around, because I have not used the search function

Thanks for the info :excl:

haha - I think it's in the works.  Probably want to wait until the final version is about ready before getting screenshots and so on.

We'll see when it is finished. I think it's good that there were no problems with the beta version of the 777 so far.

Where did you find this out?

Sebastian,

I don't think if problems/bugs were found, that the public PMDG forum would be the place for either the testers or the devs to discuss such issues.

It is important to remember that while neither group may have said anything, that doesn't mean nothing has been found.

However, the good thing is that we know PMDG are a reputable developer with a good group of internal employees and testers, and any bugs that are found will be ironed out before the release (ahhhh so that's why they don't set release dates! ).

James White

We know for a fact that at least one thing was found, as it was shown in a video here.

Yep, I believe Luke said that it was already in the bug database. I am sure they are all over anything which is found. We get to sit back, relax and enjoy the influx of screenshots

About a week ago, someone had started a thread asking the beta testers if any bugs had been found, and if they were reported to the developers. Understandably, the PMDG higher-ups (Ryan/Tabs, I believe) shut that thread down. I would safely assume that any bugs would fall under a non-disclosure agreement between the testers and the developers, and for competitive reasons are not to be discussed publicly.

I have never seen the NDA concerning this plane and the beta testers so this is only a guess. I would imagine that anything that is positive and works as it should can be discussed in this forum. Anything that is negative will be e-mailed(no PM) to PMDG for further development. The video referenced above was probably a screw up and who ever posted it is will never again beta test a plane for PMDG. I think PMDG and the beta testers are going to regret this decision to to allow testers to discuss their findings in this forum. If I have any questions about this plane I now know who to PM.

We don't talk about the bugs because we're not really supposed to, and even so, what's the point?  We flag them to the team so that they can fix them, so there's no point in sharing what was wrong with people here.  By the time people get the plane, they won't know (or care) what bugs it had earlier anyway.

I really doubt anything will come of the video (particularly if it's still up).  Looking at some of the early images, there were a few things that nobody really picked up on here, but have since been addressed.  If someone posted a video that was highlighting everything wrong with the aircraft, then that would probably be an issue.  If it's incidental to showing you other things though...

I don't think anybody really regrets showing things here, fully.  Occasionally, yeah, it's a little irritating to want to show cool features to people, only to have some latch onto some random detail that wasn't even the point of the video/picture, but it is what it is.

While I don't think the person will ever want to test anything but the 777 ever again (well except for 77W addon) - I would be surprised if he were to be removed from the list.

Apart from what Kyle posted, the author was perhaps the most instrumental single person outside of PMDG internal team to promote the aircraft, long before the betatesting began. A real brand/product ambassador.

That's far from an exonerating factor and a dubious claim at best.  In any case, shouting from a megaphone doesn't make one an instrumental promoter, it just belies a fan (fanatic).  The fan-as-celebrity-as-tester bit is tiresome.  However, as hype generator, it is effective on PMDG's part.

...yet you're the one claiming I'm pedantic in the other thread...wow.

Plus, Luke's passion has really made him a good tester.  He runs that thing through a fine-toothed comb each build.

Since when do these two claims support each other?

I was under impression that hyping up a product fits the description of promoting it... In industries such as this one, it is quite instrumental marketing tool...

So, back to the OP's question...

Ryan, can you comment on the status or intentions of a 777 tutorial?  I know it's a lot of work for you, but many of us learn so many aircraft specific techniques and system background information as a result of your efforts.  Besides, it's so much fun following your tutorial, rather than reading Capt. Rob's 25 gazillion-page manuals!  LOL...  :p0304:
