Why are the 2d panels still in the format of old 4:3 Monitors?

Featured Replies

Hey!

So, I was watching some videos from the newest PMDG 777, and I noticed the 2d FMC still opens out of correct proportions when you're using a WideScreen monitor. I don't think there's much people left that still uses an old 4:3 CRT monitor, so I wonder why can't we get proper WideScreen 2D panels with these newest products? The same holds true to the 737NGX, every time we open a 2D screen we have to change it's format to make it look OK, or we get oval buttons, instead of round ones.

It's such a small thing, but it would be nice to have it default to Widescreen, and not an old Ratio that nobody uses anymore. Maybe it's a FSX limitation?

Thanks!

Hmmmmm. I had the impression the Number Buttons were oval instead of Round. Maybe my eyes are going crazy?

Yeah, disregard this post! It looked oval when I saw it, but checking my PMDG737NGX I can see they're round. I guess I had too much free time today =p

It looks fat to me.

Curious as to why the recommended altitude is higher than max?

Maybe it's just the shadowing playing tricks on you. M

Yeah, that seems like a possible explanation!

With the NGX it was advised in the manuals that you go to your FSX.cfg file and change wideviewaspect= from False to True. It seems in this instance the problem is from your setup not pmdg. That may have also been the issue with the video you are referring to.

All the widescreen option does is change the default zoom level - nothing else.

If MS designed the panel aspect ratio system properly, then it shouldn't matter what the resolution is set to - it should correctly proportion to the screen dimensions,

MCDU looks slightly out of proprtion to me too (4:3 user here) - it looks slightly too wide.

Best regards,

Robin.

Had to bring this up again. I have made some more 737NGX flights and I can definitely see that the 2d panels of the screens doesn't have correct proportions. Just open the Engine 2d Panel and see the round dials, they're not completely round. Should be an easy thing to get right. Maybe just changing the panel.cfg should do it, but I don't have those skills!

There is something wrong on your side... over here the popups are just as proportionate as they should be.

haha - didn't even notice that. Those issues have since been fixed though. It kinda came up in the first video I posted. I entered a crossing restriction, and a fix after it had a higher alt until I hit EXEC.

I will get Photoshop on my system to try and prove my point. Without facts I have nothing, I admit!

I am not saying they are not wrong on your system. I'm just saying they are right on my system. So that you know it is not a PMDG problem, rather your FS problem.
